GMC Yukon XL Driver Uses SUV To Trim Garage Door: Video

We’ve all been there. You’re absentmindedly going through a routine task, like parking, when bam – you suddenly realize your mind was somewhere else when it should have been on the task at hand. Now, we’re watching as a GMC Yukon XL driver turns a routine parking job into an unexpected garage renovation in the following video.

Caught on a home security camera, the short clip shows a white GMC Yukon XL reversing up a driveway under sunny skies. The clip is less than a minute long.

A white GMC Yukon XL reverses up a driveway.

As the video begins, the garage door begins its ascent as the full-size SUV approaches. However, rather than wait for the door to open completely, the Yukon driver begins backing in, seemingly unaware that the garage door wasn’t yet rolled all the way up to clear the roofline of the vehicle.

We hear a man yell with a warning as the GMC Yukon approaches the door, “Woah! Woah!”

Unfortunately, the Yukon continues to reverse, striking the lower edge of the garage door. The impact shears off part of the door panel, causing the driver to come to an abrupt halt and likely feeling a bit startled.

“You’ve got to wait until it opens!” the man exclaims afterwards as the driver exits the SUV. Moments later, the clip comes to a close. Hopefully, the door is repairable and these folks don’t need any sort of extensive fix to get their garage door operational again.

It’s all too common for folks to get a bit careless behind the wheel, which can lead to some nasty surprises, especially in vehicles as large and tall as the GMC Yukon XL.

With its extended-length body and tall roofline, the Yukon XL demands extra caution when navigating tight home garages, especially when the spaces are blind, such as the gap between the roof and lip of the garage door.

  1. If you go really fast, the car gets smaller and will fit.. At least that was what we told ourselves when threading the needle in traffic on a race track. The faster you go the smaller the car gets.

  2. I will bet that this is some driver who uses this vehicle to pick up groceries from Aldi and attends a house of worship once weekly. A Civic would work fine. But this is AMERICA and we are AMERICANS. God Blessed us with the freedom, rights, privileges, power, boot straps, to go out and purchase a 6,000 pound behemoth that gets 15 MPG if lucky.

  5. If he’d been driving a Caprice Estate Wagon which has the same people moving capability as the SUV … it “wudda” fit with no problem. People are buying SUVs and Full Sized 4 Door pickup truck for one big reason … “ain’t nutt’on” else to buy. My needs are modest, the Chevy Trax LS was perfect for us, and it has a “dern” lot more in common with the humble station wagon, than it does with any SUV.
