The GM Authority Take

GM Mexico sales continued to decline in May, albeit at a much slower pace than in April, when it declined by double digits and suffered a significant reduction in volume. As such, the May results represent the automaker’s second consecutive monthly decline in the Mexican market, where it lost just over 1,000 deliveries year-over-year due to a drop in volume of several Chevrolet models.

Most GM Mexico models were in the red in May, but – unlike during the previous month – this does not include the brand’s best-selling model. The Chevy Silverado once again is most responsible for the overall drop, losing 768 units, followed by the Chevy Onix, down 354 units on a year-over-year basis. The decreases experienced by the Chevy Cavalier, Chevy Tracker, and several other less influential models are also worth pointing out.

By contrast, the best-selling Chevy Aveo posted a healthy single-digit increase in May, solidifying its position not only as the automaker’s volume leader, but also one of the most popular models in its class in Mexico. Also worth noting were strong increases recorded by the company’s entire full-size SUVs and high triple-digit gains for its latest-generation three-row crossovers (Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia).
