GM Extends Chevy Colorado Fuel Injector Flow Rate Fix Coverage

Certain units of the 2023 through 2024 Chevy Colorado pickup, powered by the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R engine and 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engines, are included in a new GM Service Update containing a fix available for a fuel injector flow rate problem.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) of the affected Chevy Colorado units is incorrectly programmed, per Service Update N242452130. This could potentially lead to an improper fuel flow rate during certain types of driving.

As a reminder, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R engine is rated at 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B Turbo Plus engine pumps out 310 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. The High-Ouput tuning turns up the torque to 430 pound-feet.

The exact number of affected units is currently unclear. GM instructs dealership service to apply the available fix to any vehicles still in stock and to affected Chevy Colorado trucks brought in by their owners for other services. The repair is offered free of charge to current owners of the vehicles through March 31st, 2040.

No components need to be replaced to repair the fuel injector flow rate. To calibrate the flow rate correctly, the service personnel must reprogram the Engine Control Module with new settings. The whole process, including verifying the issue and reprogramming the ECM, takes about 30 minutes on average.

In late 2023, GM issued a very similar service update with an ECM fix for a fuel injector flow rate problem for the 2023 Chevy Colorado. Service Update N232411311 called for the same fix as this new update.

The 2.7L I4 L3B has been the only engine option in the Chevy Colorado since its current generation debuted for the 2023 model year. It rides on the GMT31XX platform shared with the Chevy Colorado. Production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
