GM Digital Key Will Include Apple Wallet Compatibility

General Motors is enhancing its in-vehicle digital convenience features by expanding Digital Key functionality to support Apple Wallet, allowing GM customers to access and operate their vehicles through their iPhones or Apple Watch devices. Apple confirmed that it would enable the new functionality during the its recent 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote. When paired with Apple Wallet, the Digital Key feature will allow users to lock, unlock, and start their General Motors vehicles using the Apple Wallet app. The Digital Key feature is tagged with RPO code BOY.

“Adoption by automakers continues to grow rapidly, with over 20 brands already offering car keys in wallet, and 13 more coming soon,” Apple states during its keynote.

The new feature rollout will include select Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac models, although GM has yet to confirm specific vehicles that will offer this latest feature integration. “We will share more details at launch,” a General Motors spokesperson told GM Authority.

Nevertheless, the 2026 Chevy Silverado EV and 2026 GMC Sierra EV are already confirmed to offer the Digital Key feature, though it will not be active at the start of production, with feature availability expected at a later date. As for Cadillac, none of the latest 2026 model-year Caddy vehicles (CT4, CT5, Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL, Lyriq-V, or Vistiq) are currently listed as supporting the Digital Key feature.

Meanwhile, several General Motors vehicles, such as the GMC Acadia, Chevy Traverse, Cadillac Lyriq / Lyriq-V, and Buick Enclave offer the Key Card feature, which provides similar functionality to the Digital Key feature, but is unlikely to be compatible with Apple Wallet. Essentially, the Key Card feature allows users to lock, unlock, and start a vehicle with a physical card, rather than a traditional key fob or app. To use this feature, owners simply need to tap the card around a certain predefined area on the vehicle, typically around the B-pillar or door handle.

Does this mean Buick models won’t be supported?

    1. Buick is an afterthought. Most likely included but wasn’t on the tip of his tongue.

  2. Just another subscription services one will need to pay for. After my on star expired, GM called me, trying to get me to sign up. I told them that I didn’t use their services in the 2 years I’ve had my Cadillac CT5, and I didn’t use their services in the 15 years I drove my Pontiac. GM said that my telephone link application would now be disabled. I said again, I never used it when it was active. I use the key FOB. End of conversation…..

  3. How about including an Android version for those that don’t use Apple products? There are Samsung and Google Wallet options available.
