GM Confirms Refreshed Chevy Tracker Production In Argentina

Despite announcing a new program to slow down local assembly of the model for the remainder of the year, General Motors has just confirmed production of the updated Chevy Tracker in Argentina.

The automaker’s Argentine subsidiary confirmed it will build the refreshed Chevy Tracker at the GM Alvear plant in the South American country’s Santa Fe province, revealing it will make a new investment in the complex to modernize the facility and manufacture the improved version of the subcompact crossover. The company will take advantage of the temporary production halts to adapt the assembly lines to the new product.

“GM announces that it will implement a one-week suspension per month at the Alvear plant, starting in July and continuing through December 2025,” said GM Argentina a statement. “This measure is based on the dynamics of exports in the current South American scenario and will not affect the supply of vehicles to the Argentine market, nor the investments to make the necessary plant upgrades to manufacture the new generation of Tracker,” the company added.

Notably, this is the first time GM has officially confirmed its plans to produce the updated Chevy Tracker at its Argentine plant. Although the Argentine subsidiary referred to a “new generation of the Tracker,” it’s actually a deeply updated version of the current fourth-generation model that will debut soon in South America and will also be manufactured in Brazil.

In this regard, production of the current Chevy Tracker at the GM Alvear plant will gradually slow down to adjust the inventory of units exported to Brazil and to other countries in the region, such as Colombia. Unlike the current model developed by engineering teams in China and Brazil, the upcoming, refreshed Tracker is an exclusive development by the Brazilian subsidiary for Chevrolet’s Latin American markets.

The updated Chevy Tracker is expected to be officially unveiled in Brazil in the coming weeks, with production expected to begin at GM São Caetano do Sul plant sometime in the second half of the year. While GM has yet to reveal an estimated start date for manufacturing in Argentina, the production halts at the Alvear facility suggest the refreshed Tracker could begin production there as early as the end of the year.
