Corvette Pickup Truck Rendering Is More Proof AI Has No Soul

There’s a lot of hype around artificial intelligence (AI). You may have heard some fearmongering about AI replacing people’s jobs, but based on new computer-generated renderings of a Corvette pickup truck, car designer won’t be one of those jobs any time soon.

Rumors swirled years ago that Corvette could expand into its own brand that includes an electric sedan and crossover, but what about a truck? Here are some images circulating on social media of what a computer thought a Corvette pickup truck might look like.

Corvette truck rendering front three quarter angle.

Let’s start with the front-three-quarter-angle image. It looks an awful lot like a Chevy Silverado 1500, from the front-end design to the body lines. Even the wheels are a bit uninspired; they look like they could be a set of stock wheel options for the Silverado. This looks more like a Silverado appearance package than a distinct model focused on road and track performance.

What makes it a “Corvette” is a botched cross-flag emblem in the grille and…not much else. It looks like there’s supposed to be another red emblem in the grille, possibly an “SS” emblem? There’s also a hood vent that kind of looks like the one on the C7 and some red splotches down in the lower fascia that look like they’re supposed to be red fog lights.

The rendering of the back of the Corvette pickup is at least a bit more interesting; it doesn’t quite look like a Silverado. For starters, it says “Corvette” four times (if you count the license plate) but doesn’t have a crossed-flag emblem at all. Interestingly, it uses fonts from different generations of the Corvette. The lettering in the middle of the tailgate looks like C4 branding, while the other Corvette scripts are more italicized like in more modern generations.

The rear light signature is much more unique than the one in the front. Borrowing more inspiration from the C7, it has vents extending out of the taillights. The tailgate design itself is quite angular and probably can’t accommodate a Multi-Flex tailgate.

Not to be outdone by any other high-performance pickup trucks, a whopping seven exhaust tips are integrated into the lower rear fascia. There appears to be a central muffler located in the middle, so this truck presumably has three mufflers for a triple-exit exhaust setup.

GM is already using AI to assist in designing new cars, including a Corvette concept, but these renderings show that human artistic instinct and skill are still required to create good car designs.

  1. There haven’t been many good looking vehicles recently. Everything seems to be that God awful egg shaped CUV look. It’s been the Brutalist Era of automotive design.
I’m willing to give AI a chance.

  2. Don’t show this to Mary. She’ll build it tomorrow.

  3. Artificial dumbtelligence has way underperformed expectations. There’s all the fear mongering it will replace jobs but really think it won’t replace many. More likely it’ll be more like what happened with all the set builders in Hollywood when CGI started being big, and less like the unions robot scare of the 80’s. The set builders were replaced by army’s of renderers who were needed to keep CGI from looking like crap. A couple people lost their jobs, but mostly everyone shifted around so the movie quality could go way up. In the case of avatar blue alien movie, it actually made jobs because the goal was to make the film appear life like. Artificial dumbtelligence might end up requirining more jobs as it frees up some of the mundane work allowing businesses to expand their scope, especially if we’re serious about actually building a moon base and colonizing mars.

    1. AI is more of a threat than that. It’s taking over medicine, law, and education. Knowing corporations, they won’t be eager to spend very more on human “overseers” to clear up the mistakes and lack of logic.

Speaking of which, if the teaching of mathematics and writing gets any more AI-infused, we won’t have enough people to think critically and correct the problems.

All that said, repeating “Corvette” that many times and having seven tailpipes are the height of stupidity.

      1. That’s how corporations fail, when they just start gutting everything, and their product goes to absolute crap. Someone will figure out to hire a couple teams to work with the AI and develop truly awesome product.

      2. Who was fired recently in either medication, law or education???? All I’ve seen is nvidia stocks loosing value due to lackluster performance of AI.

    1. On the more:
LOL! Exactly. I was going to say, instead of ‘more cowbell’, ‘more tailpipes’.

    2. Yeah, it needs 8 tail pipes. Duallies all around and over the cab exhaust pipes. Add 125 amp boombox in the back, tuck-n-roll seats, a cromb visor over the front window, oh yeah lower it 8 inches. It will be a show stopper!

  6. Ah yes, the NOT long awaited nor long desired El Corvettamino. How will the world ever survive if it doesn’t get built? Well, very well and not one single enthusiast will lament the lack of it in the Chevy lineup.

  10. At least give it 2 more (or 2 less) tailpipes. Take off 2 doors. Might as well make it a dually for more rubber to road contact in drag racing; cause it certainly couldn’t handle any road course type track.

  11. Using an example of two bad AI photos trying to make a dubious car-pickup Frankenstein is not proof that AI can’t do car design. It comes down to the input you give it. You can tell the AI how many exhausts to add, how many doors, whether you want a pick-up truck or a coupe, by how much the fenders flare (which is clearly different in the above photos), what design inspiration you want to borrow from, and many more variables.

After seeing this article, I spent about 10 minutes coming up with a Corvette heavily based on the mid-1960s Corvette design. Is it perfect? No way, but does it look miles ahead of this thing? Absolutely. It’s not hard to design a car using AI. You just need to finetune the inputs.

  13. I would buy it and go Raptor hunting. I love this. Needs to look a little meaner though. The wide stance is attractive.

  15. I don’t think there are enough “Corvette” badges on the back tailgate. Needs a few more so we know it’s a Corvette and not a Silverado

  16. About as stupid as the Porsche CUV

  17. I believe that is a hitch in the middle of the rear bumper not a 7th tailpipe.

  18. This rendering is on par with the EV, crossover suv mustang Ford made. Totally dumb to buy the Vette badge on it

  19. Just because they put a corvette brand on does not make it a corvette just something someone with more money than brains would buy,
