GM has issued product recall N242482680 for certain units of the Chevy Silverado MD (Medium Duty) truck due to a problem related to a faulty brake pressure switch. This is similar to recall N222375270 issued in 2023, but this new recall expands to the 2024 model year.
The problem: affected vehicles may have a condition in which the brake pressure sensor assembly leaks brake fluid into the brake pressure switch, causing an electrical short-circuit.
The hazards: if the brake fluid leak were to cause an electrical short-circuit, a fire could erupt. In fact, GM has advised owners to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect the master cylinder pressure sensor and wiring harness and replace as necessary, free of charge. There is currently a stop-sale in effect.
Affected components: master cylinder pressure sensor.
