Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra Wireless Apple CarPlay Functionality Restored: Video

Back in March, GM Authority reported that owners of the current-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra were having issues with wireless Apple CarPlay. Specifically, the full-size pickup trucks presented a behavior where CarPlay would work only when connected via a cable, but did not function wirelessly. At the time, GM told us that it was aware of the issue and was working to fix it. It now appears that the wireless CarPlay functionality has been restored.

Several owners impacted previously by this behavior have started to contact us to tell us that wireless CarPlay has returned to their GM truck. One of these is GM Authority’s own Executive Editor, Alex Luft, who describes his experience in the following video.

Luft explains that CarPlay suddenly started to work wireless in his 2025 GMC Sierra AT4 1500 in late May without him doing anything. Specifically, he didn’t unpair and re-pair his iPhone (an iPhone 14 Pro), and he also didn’t install any of the available software updates, including N25-250520 and N25-250380.

GM Authority reached out to GM for an explanation about the sudden reactivation of the wireless feature, but has not received a reply as of this writing. However, given that neither of the available software updates were installed on Luft’s truck, one could deduce that the reason wireless CarPlay was restored were software updates issued by Apple for the iPhone (as opposed to updates issued by General Motors).

If wireless Apple CarPlay still doesn’t work for you, Luft recommends deleting the iPhone from the infotainment system and then pairing it from scratch. Note that he didn’t need to do this in his own truck.

  1. Was this only for certain model years? I have a 2022.5 and I’ve never had any issues whatsoever with wireless CarPlay.

    1. My 2023 dropped the wireless bit around March. It came back last Friday. I giess it’s sporadic.

    2. I also never had this problem on my 2023 Silverado High Country.
The problem I do have is the severe radio volume reduction when an alert comes up, even when I have the WAZE sound turned off. This is very annoying, and does not happen on my Wife’s XT5, or my 2018 Denali. Anyone have a solution?

      1. not sure if your talking about a phone alert or a truck generated alert. But, you could try this. As the sound is happening, use the right side control behind steering wheel to lower the volume. The volume control controls the volume of both alerts and music. You just have to be quick and hit volume down as the alert is “talking”

    1. My 2024 Silverado LTZ still doesn’t work. Worked until late February or so and now is wired only like Alex said. I tried deleting and pairing and even tried it using my brother’s iPhone. Doesn’t work either way.

  4. 2024 Silverado here 1500 LT. Had since Jan 3 2024. Car play always worked wirelessly. Never an issue. Alex said he never downloaded any updates, but could it be his truck downloaded a fix over the air without him knowing about it?

    1. Lou – I thought about this too. The updates auto-download, but do not auto-install.

Essentially, the equivalent of a zip file is downloaded… and it sits there until the user tells the vehicle to install the update in question.

    1. I don’t know how to do it since your m0m typically does it for me during our night dates.

  7. You ask “what would you like us to cover?” How about an in-depth detailed review of how various options offered work and how to use them. Once you leave the dealership after a run through by the sales person it takes a photographic memory to use some of the screen options.

  8. I have a 2025 Sierra Denali Duramax purchased in March. I have not had any issues with wireless CarPlay or anything else. Yesterday, I received and installed a second software update (already installed the remote windows). This new update notes that it improves Bluetooth connectivity and other software issues. So far I haven’t discovered anything different.

  9. On thing I know for sure! I have always had a Silverado in my garage and will entertain doing so with the upcoming 2027, maybe! If Chevy decides to dictate which system (Apple CarPlay) that I use in MY many thousand dollar purchase I will definitely entertain other options!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. I have a 2024 trax and experienced the exact same thing. The wireless Apple CarPlay worked for the first month or so and then all of a sudden it stopped working. So I took it in to Chevrolet to get it looked at and they gave me a new radio and wireless worked for about one or two months and now it doesn’t work again.
