Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Chevy Silverado sales in Q1 2025 saw the Bow Tie brand’s line of full-size light-duty and heavy-duty pickup trucks, along with medium-duty chassis cabs, place second among 11 entires in its segment when ranked by sales volume, a spot it has occupied for well over a year now.

The Ford F-Series (see running Ford F-series sales) lineup kept top billing as usual with a 26 percent upswing in sales to 183,202 units, with the Silverado (see running Chevy Silverado sales) in second with sales nearly flat, down just over one percent for 127,331 deliveries. The Ram Pickup took third with a 12 percent slide moving 78,848 units. The GMC Sierra (see running GMC Sierra sales) line of trucks, the Silverado’s corporate cousin and T1 platform mate, followed in fourth with a 13 percent uptick to 77,292 units. The Toyota Tundra placed fifth, down nearly two percent to 35,550 units.

The all-electric Tesla Cybertruck, in sixth, saw sales up 17-fold with 9,000 deliveries. The oldest EV truck here, the Ford F-150 Lightning (see running Ford F-150 Lightning sales), was down seven percent to 7,187 units to take seventh. The Chevy Silverado EV (see running Silverado EV sales) followed in eighth place, up 125 percent moving 2,383 units. The all-electric Rivian R1T took ninth, down 33 percent to 1,600 units. The Nissan Titan placed tenth with a 62 percent drop to 1,556 units. Finishing out the list, the GMC Sierra EV posted 1,249 deliveries.

From a segment share standpoint, the Silverado earned a 24 percent share, down three percentage points year-over-year. The F-Series posted a 35 percent segment share, up five percentage points. The Ram Pickup and Sierra both held a 15 percent share, down three and up one percentage point, respectively. The Tundra maintained a seven percent share. The rest of the field each held a segment share of two percent or less.

Combining Chevy Silverado sales with the Silverado EV, plus GMC Sierra sales with the Sierra EV, gave GM an impressive 208,255 combined deliveries for a nearly 40 percent segment share, outselling Ford by about 18K units. That enables The General to again carry the title of America’s best-seller of full-size pickups, moving two out of every five trucks during the quarter.

The full-size pickup segment grew eight percent for 525,198 deliveries during Q1 2025, meaning that Chevy Silverado sales underperformed the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

Chevy Silverado sales were down during the first quarter of the year, but those of its corporate cousin, the GMC Sierra, were up. Combining all of GM’s trucks, however, including both ICE-based and battery-powered, confirmed the automaker’s title as the best-selling purveyor of full-size pickup trucks in the U.S. to again outpace crosstown rival Ford, this time by about 18K deliveries.

Chevy’s complete truck lineup positions the Bow Tie brand quite well in terms of sales volume. Full-size trucks, from ICE-powered to BEVs, are the lifeblood of General Motors, with Chevy and GMC models combining to account for 30 percent, or nearly one-third, of all GM sales in the U.S. during Q1 2025.

Notably, battery electric trucks from all automakers cumulatively accounted for four percent of overall truck sales, failing to move the needle much so far.

Looking ahead, GM Authority spied the next-generation 2027 Chevy Silverado prototype testing, revealing Corvette C8-inspired exhaust tips, ditching “HDMI ports” used by the current Silverados. We also spotted another prototype with production-spec headlights and a 2027 Silverado ZR2 riding on 35-inch tires.

The next-gen Silverado will bring with it a much-needed (in our opinion) powerplant lineup that could include PHEV or EREV options.

  1. I think GM dropped the ball, they didn’t build enough to satisfy the demand. The dealer lots around me are nearly empty and most of what’s available are 4 cylinders which are a tough sell especially in anything other than a WT. Also could be people stepping up to 3/4 ton to avoid the 1/2 ton drivetrain problems. I’m considering that too, the 6.6 gasser seems to be about the best out there right now. My fingers are crossed for the fake 10-speed Allison transmissions, I hope they are long lived and reliable.

    1. Don’t forget—GM is one of the worst offenders when it comes to importing parts from China. The company appears firmly opposed to increasing production in the United States and may be concealing just how severely they’re impacted by tariffs. Mary Barra does not seem aligned with a pro-American manufacturing agenda.
