The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Korea sales suffered another double-digit decline in May, which further deepened the brand’s negative performance in the Asian country – losing both volume and market share. This lackluster performance represents Chevrolet’s 17th consecutive monthly decline in the South Korean market, and is the result of an increasingly small and outdated product portfolio compared to local customer demand.

Almost the entire Chevrolet Korea product portfolio was in the red during May. The decrease was led once again by the domestically-produced Chevy Trax and Chevy Trailblazer, both of which saw sales drop over 30 percent or a cumulative 830 units. The Trax suffered the most during both the month and calendar year to date.

The only positive was that the results represented a marginal improvement from the April 2025, when Chevy sold a combined 1,300 vehicles in South Korea.

Aside from the discontinued Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Traverse, the Chevy Colorado was once again the only Chevy model that managed to improve deliveries on a year-over-year basis. However, the midsize truck’s sales volume – just four units vs. zero deliveries last year- was so low, that it was almost irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

We’re not sure what GM’s plan is for South Korea, but we sure hope that there is one.

  1. Time to close it down and do the manufacturing in N.A.

But forced patriotism is better than none….

  4. Hence, the pullout plan.

They can make the CUVs in an underuse GM plant here or Can/Mex (depending on tariffs)..

  6. Taking into account that only 2 vehicles are sold in Korea (TrailBlazer and Trax), how can you possibly have good sales?
GM Korea makes around 2,000 vehicles per day (Trax, Envista, TrailBlazer and Encore GX) which is almost 460,000 / year. Given the sales volume it is only 3% of the total production what stays in Korea.
I assume that GM is making money (perhaps not tons of it, but making some) on this platform, which will make sense to keep it there.
Cadillac on the other hand, in Korea, is a pipe dream (for GM). For our fellow Koreans, the aspirational vehicles (high end) is #1 BMW and #2 Mercedes Benz. Therefore the sales will continue tanking.
92% of the new vehicles sold in Korea are Kia’s, Hyundai’s and SangYong motors, including new trucks and passenger buses.

  7. My take is that Koreans are fully aware of how impressive their own brands are in comparison to Chevrolet’s lineup.
