The Cadillac F1 team’s on-track debut is just months away, but the team’s driver lineup is still a mystery. General Motors has expressed interest in pairing an experienced veteran with a younger driver for its two seats, but no names are locked in yet. However, if Valtteri Bottas’ recent tomfoolery on social media is any indication, the Finnish driver is headed for the luxury marque in 2026.
Bottas threw his own name in the hat over the weekend, posting a seemingly innocent video on social media. Bottas encounters a Cadillac Escalade while out and about. He opens the luxury SUV’s door, seemingly fascinated with the driver’s seat. “That’s a nice seat!” he said. “I wouldn’t mind.”
A voice off-camera points out that there’s two seats – a thinly veiled reference to the two seats up for grabs on the Cadillac F1 team – to which Bottas says, “And they’re both free.” Bottas then says “not yet” when asked if he wants to take a seat in the Escalade.
Seems pretty obvious to us: Bottas is gunning for that Cadillac F1 ride. And if he’s the man for the job, the decision should be announced soon. Cadillac F1 team execs, Graeme Lowdon and Dan Towriss, are expected to attend the British Grand Prix in July, where key discussions will be held regarding the driver lineup. From there, an announcement could be made in weeks.

Aside from Bottas, several names have been circulating through the rumor mill. Colton Herta of IndyCar has been floated as a potential prospect, but the young driver said that he’s not sure he’d split with his Indy outfit if Caddy asked. Sergio “Checo” Pérez is also a prime candidate, having split with Red Bull Racing, which is partnering with Ford beginning in 2026.
No matter which wheelmen GM signs on, the Cadillac F1 deal has been, and will continue to be, an expensive project for the automaker. In fact, The General had to shell out a $450 million “antidilution” fee to secure its spot on the grid in 2026.

Only if Valtteri loses that ridiculous mullet!
Please, no Sergio Perez. The guy is slower than Christmas and unpredictable. That signing would demonstrate to me that Cadillac is not interested in winning or even top ten finishes.
