Highlighting Buick’s long legacy in the Chinese market, General Motors has just announced that the Buick Envision and Buick LaCrosse have reached new production milestones in China.
The Buick Envision and Buick LaCrosse have reached new production highs, with the compact crossover lineup surpassing 1.8 million units manufactured and the full-size sedan reaching 1.3 million units produced in the Asian country. As such, both models have played a strategic and notable role in the success of the Tri-Shield brand in the Chinese market.
“Buick today marked a major production milestone with the rollout of its 1.8-millionth Envision SUV and the 1.3-millionth LaCrosse sedan in China,” said GM China a statement. “As cornerstone models in Buick’s SUV and sedan lineups, the Envision and LaCrosse families continue to play a pivotal role in solidifying the brand’s leadership in China’s mainstream automotive market, while advancing its dual-path strategy of fuel and new energy vehicles,” the company added.
Notably, the Buick Envision’s production mark of 1.8 million units in China makes it Buick’s third most successful nameplate in China, surpassed only by the now-defunct best-selling Buick Excelle and the Buick GL8 full-size MPV lineup – the longest-running brand model. The 1,800,000th Envision manufactured in China is a blue-painted unit of the country-exclusive three-row extended-length Envision Plus variant.
For its part, the new milestone for the Buick LaCrosse consolidates the legacy of the full-size sedan in China where it has been manufactured continuously, and has evolved over four generations since its initial launch in that country in 2006. The 1,300,000th LaCrosse manufactured in the country corresponds to a blue-painted unit in range-topping Avenir trim of the current fourth-generation model in the domestic market.
The Buick Envision is built in both body styles at the SAIC-GM Dongyue plant in Shandong, which has received multiple quality awards and is responsible for supplying both the Chinese market and exporting the standard Envision to North America. Meanwhile, the Buick LaCrosse is built at the SAIC-GM Jinqiao plant in Shanghai exclusively for the Chinese market. The Envision and LaCrosse are the two most successful current Buick ICE models in China.

Congrats to GM and Buick! An American brand establishing a major role in Chinese auto manufacturing, with all the political crosswinds, is an amazing accomplishment. No matter your political view in this complicated matter, it seems to show the quality of the product and desire of the Chinese people to own an American brand. All the best to Buick as GM reorganizes its China operations.
Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. I’m a new very satisfied owner.
I wish they would bring the Envision “Plus” over, too. It’s a little bit longer than the (standard) Envision and reminds me more of a station wagon. More choice!
Congrats to Buick and GM. Great news. I definitely hope that Buick has a bright future here in North America and gets more product offerings which it desperately needs and survives as a brand here in the North America market and doesn’t end up going extinct like Oldsmobile and Pontiac did? I’d Love for Buick and GM to start using and sharing future platforms with Cadillac for future vehicle designs and products or Buick should also develop their own vehicle designs and platforms for their future products. GM should also bring Buick to Europe and Australia like they currently do with Cadillac. GM should have Never discontinued Sedans, Coupes and Convertibles. Buick and Cadillac are two of my favorite GM brands. Production and manufacturing of All current and future Buicks should be brought back to the USA including Engines, Transmissions and All Parts and Components. I would like for Buick to get Sedans, Coupes and Convertibles again including Cadillac and Lincoln in the future.
Those look more and more like hatchback sedans and station wagons than crossovers, which is a good thing.
Hey Mary Buicks should Not foreign assembled cars
