SAIC-GM has just announced that the Buick brand recorded a monthly sales increase and a sales record in China during May 2025.
General Motors’ main joint venture in the Asian country stated that Buick performed well in the domestic market during May, selling a total of 40,177 units in the month in its largest volume market internationally. This represents the brand’s best monthly sales figure so far during the 2025 calendar year.
Notably, SGM claims that the 40,177 deliveries Buick recorded in China in May 2025 represent both a month-over-month and year-over-year increase for the brand – without disclosing the percentage growth rate in either case. Furthermore, the automaker also revealed that the May volume became the new monthly sales record its best-selling U.S. brand has achieved in the country so far in 2025.
While the GM joint venture doesn’t typically release detailed sales figures or those of individual models, it did reveal overall figures for the Buick vehicle families that contributed most to May’s record sales. Among them, the brand’s best-selling product line for the month was the Buick Envision, with a total of 14,109 units sold across the two model variants – the standard version and the three-row Envision Plus.
The Tri-Shield brand’s second best-selling model family in China during May 2025 was the Buick GL8 full-size MPV lineup, which sold a total of 13,055 units during the month thanks to the all-new GL8 LS PHEV recording its first full month of sales in the country. In fact, the company held a celebration at the model’s factory as the GL8 LS helped the lineup surpass 13,000 monthly deliveries and cement its position as the best-selling MPV in its class.
Meanwhile, the brand’s third-best-selling model category in the Chinese market was comprised of its midsize and full-size sedans, namely the Buick Regal and Buick LaCrosse. Combined, the two vehicles sold 10,045 units, including a significant year-over-year increase of more than 200 percent for the LaCrosse. SGM highlights that the full-size sedan has now seen year-over-year increases in China for seven consecutive months.

Awesome, amazing and a really good sign in many ways. The people of China love the American Buick brand, even with all the swirling political storms. The product lineup is modern, well positioned and across a wide spectrum. GM seems to be weathering through the Chinese domestic market fluctuations well. Keep up the good work!
I agree with jg. Congratulations to Buick for their sales achievement in China (and sales in the U.S. are up, too)!
Who cares?
Sick of hearing about CHINA!!!
