Apple Watch Connectivity Back With GM MyApp Update

GM has officially restored Apple Watch functionality to its suite of branded mobile apps.

Each of the General Motors branded mobile apps (myChevrolet, myCadillac, myBuick, and myGMC) are now accessible through compatible Apple Watch devices following a recent update that resolves previous connectivity issues. The automaker has previously suspended Apple Watch access earlier this year.

Updated GM mobile app includes Apple Watch support.

As GM Authority reported previously, General Motors acknowledged the issue with a notice sent out to users late last March, stating that it was working towards resolving the connectivity issues and that access would be suspended only temporarily. That fix is now live, allowing Apple Watch owners to once again use the suite of popular remote features, including vehicle start/stop, door lock and unlock, and horn and light activation.

Beyond these core features, the General Motors myApps lineup also supports an array of EV-specific functions for electric vehicle owners, such as the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevy Blazer EV, and GMC Hummer EV. These include real-time battery status updates, energy assist alerts, plug-in reminders, and EV route planning with highlighted charger locations.

The myApps platform remains accessible through the Apple App Store and Google Play, supporting both iOS and Android smartphones, in addition to Apple Watch devices.

General Motors’ software strategy has shifted considerably in the last few years, with the automaker officially retiring the “Ultifi” brand in June of 2025. Although originally envisioned as the umbrella name for the automaker’s vehicle software architecture, the move to drop the Ultifi  branding was intended to reduce what General Motors referred to as “overbranding.”

The automaker also aims to improve performance and reduce software-related recalls through its next-generation vehicle software platform, with buggy software previously resulting in issues impacting both its EV and ICE-based models. GM projects that by 2030, its software and related services, which include OnStar and the semi-autonomous Super Cruise driver assist system, could generate as much as $25 billion annually.
