General Motors has just unveiled the all-new 2026 Chevy Captiva PHEV in Mexico, making its global debut after GM Authority previewed the model’s upcoming arrival in the South American market.
The automaker’s Mexican subsidiary unveiled the all-new 2026 Chevy Captiva PHEV for the first time, establishing a new chapter in the Chevrolet brand’s product portfolio in the Latin American country thanks to its plug-in hybrid powertrain – a variant also being considered for other countries in the region. In this sense, the 2026 Captiva PHEV expands the successful compact crossover’s local offering.
“The all-new Chevrolet Captiva PHEV offers our customers a new option that stands out for its design, technology, safety, and efficiency,” said GM Mexico Vice President of Sales, Service and Marketing, Jorge Plata. “No one more than Chevrolet, a brand with nine decades of heritage in our country, has the trust of customers, both in the purchasing and after-sales processes,” he added.
The all-new 2026 Chevy Captiva PHEV becomes the brand’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle in Mexico and will arrive to market to strengthen the nameplate’s position in the compact utility segment, which is evolving toward more efficient and technological alternatives. As such, the electrified crossover comes standard with a full suite of connectivity technologies and advanced active safety systems.
On a mechanical level, the 2026 Chevy Captiva PHEV combines a naturally aspirated, Atkinson-cycle 1.5L engine with an electric motor that develops a total of 204 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque. GM claims that the 2026 Captiva PHEV’s battery pack and fuel tank offer a combined approximate range of more than 1,100 km or 684 miles, ideal for long road trips and using electric mobility in the city.
The all-new 2026 Chevy Captiva PHEV has just made its global debut in Mexico and will be gradually rolled out in other international markets to complement Chevrolet’s portfolio of electrified powertrains below the all-new Chevy Captiva EV. The new 2026 Captiva PHEV is expected to go on sale in the Mexican market during the fourth quarter of the calendar year, with full equipment and pricing details expected to be announced at that time.

Oh, I’m sure that Mexico has tons of charging stations and at-home chargers. Does anyone with a brain still work at GM? Don’t think so.
It’s a plug-in hybrid, not a pure battery electric.
Beachy never reads the articles or has any critical analysis. For him, it’s “EV bad therefore GM bad no matter the product.”
It’s a plug in hybrid. It can fully charge overnight on a 120 volt outlet, no at-home charger needed. Unless you think most people in Mexico don’t have electricity in their houses?
Il y a un contacteur ( qu’on appelle erronément chargeur) avec tous les véhicules rechargeables. Ce contacteur assure la sécurité de la recharge entre la prise de courant et la batterie du véhicule.
A PHEV makes more sense than a pure EV when the country doesn’t have charging stations. All you need to charge at home is an electrical outlet.
I visited a BYD dealership in Mexico. They have EV´s for sale for less than $12,000 suitable for urban use. I saw them driving around Querétaro, Mexico. They have a full range of EV´´s and PHEV´s and pickups as well. The country of Mexico is developing their own basic EV for commuter use which will be displayed at the opening of the World Cup next year. It is already a symbol of national pride and will incentivize the EV market. I would say that GM introducing a PHEV in Mexico is a good thing.
“a symbol of national pride” – Yeah, the mentally ill women and weak men here in America don’t like that for American people and companies.
Mexico is an American nation, too.
Will Chevy repeat selling 1 yr old Captivas in the USA? Stay tuned.
No 3.6?
This Captiva is a U.S. brand, so bring it here and reduce sales of the Japanese and Korean imports.
This is actually made by SAIC in China that just has a Chevy badge slapped on it. SAIC owns 51% of the GM/ SAIC joint venture. GM has moved ALL R&D out of the US to China and has forked over all their Tech to the communist party. Way to go Mary, a traitor to the American worker and the loyal GM buyers. This is how she enjoys a $23 million annual salary.
Even though it’s not a full hybrid I’ll take it GM! 684 miles is way better than 300 mile EVs! Get that engine onto the Envision, Equinox, the 3 row GM crossovers and we have a deal!
