All-New 2026 Buick GL8 Legacy MPV Officially Launched

General Motors has just officially launched the all-new 2026 Buick GL8 Legacy in China, just a week after first announcing the redesigned MPV in the Asian country.

SAIC-GM, the automaker’s largest joint venture in China, launched the new 2026 Buick GL8 Legacy, completing the refresh of Buick‘s entire full-size MPV lineup. The new 2026 GL8 Legacy represents the entry-level variant of the GL8 family and strengthens the brand’s leadership within the competitive minivan segment in the Chinese market.

“Today, Buick launched the new GL8, reinforcing its position as China’s definitive premium MPV with thoughtful upgrades to design, chassis, cabin refinement, safety, and connectivity,” said GM China a statement. “The new GL8 builds on its 26-year heritage while addressing evolving user expectations for premium mobility,” the company added.

The 2026 Buick GL8 Legacy is offered in a single trim level, which the brand has dubbed the Entry Edition, and includes significant improvements in comfort, safety, and technology. The model comes standard with a seven-seat interior configuration arranged in a 2+2+3 layout, which promises class-leading roominess and comfort, including best-in-class third-row and cargo area space.

Mechanically, the 2026 Buick GL8 Legacy is equipped as standard with the familiar turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine producing 174 kW or 233 horsepower and 350 Nm or 258 pound-feet of torque, mated exclusively to the GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission. Unlike its predecessor, the 2026 GL8 Legacy’s powertrain currently does not include a 48V mild-hybrid option and is not a New Energy Vehicle.

The all-new 2026 Buick GL8 Legacy is now available for sale at Buick dealerships in China, the only country in the world where the Tri-Shield brand’s successful line of large MPVs is manufactured and sold. The unique variant includes a comprehensive range of technology and safety equipment, as well as comfort features trickling down more advanced trim levels, such as an improved suspension, improved sound insulation, and Buick’s Virtual Cockpit system.

The 2026 Buick GL8 Legacy Entry Edition is priced in China at 229,900 yuan, or about $33,080 USD at the current exchange rate.
