General Motors is gearing up to launch a brand-new generation for the light-duty Chevy Silverado 1500, rolling out a long list of updates and changes to the styling, the tech, the interior, the powertrain, and a whole lot more. Naturally, GM Authority has been at forefront of next-gen Silverado coverage for quite some time, and now, we’re getting another look at the 2027 Chevy Silverado thanks to the following spy photos.
While this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the next-gen Silverado, it is our best look yet. Hit play on the video below for a full breakdown:
This series of exclusive spy photos come to us from GM Authority reader John R. The photos capture a prototype 2027 Chevy Silverado out for testing on public roads, unlike earlier spy photos published in March, which caught the truck testing elsewhere. That said, this particular truck is the exact same prototype as the prototype we saw in March.
The body configuration is a Crew Cab / Short Box layout, and although it’s heavily camouflaged, a few updates are still visible. The front end features placeholder headlights mounted lower than those on the current model, along with new vertical daytime running lights, fog lights, and a front-facing camera. The truck’s stance appears more level as well, and it may also be equipped with the Z71 off-road package, given the aggressive tires spotted in the corners. Further details include revised mirrors with vertically mounted LED perimeter lighting and black running boards. Up top, we notice a new antenna setup.
Moving around to the rear, we find a redesigned rear sliding window, which now has rounded corners and lacks the plastic trim seen on current models. The taillights appear to use a modern LED signature, and the rear bumper still features a corner step and tow hitch receiver. Also of note is a quad-tipped exhaust, which adds a sportier look and has been seen on other GM vehicles like the Corvette Stingray and 2025 Tahoe.
Under the hood, the 2027 Chevy Silverado will debut GM’s sixth-generation small-block V8, expected to improve fuel efficiency and performance. Existing engine options like the TurboMax 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine and 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax will likely return, and a plug-in hybrid variant is also expected within the first two years of launch. Under the skin, the 2027 Chevy Silverado will ride on an updated T1-2 platform, an evolution of the current T1 architecture.
Look for the 2027 Silverado 1500 to launch in late 2026.

Z71 package tends to not feature a lift or level kit, so this is likely a trail boss/RZ2
This doesn’t seem to have a lift… ride: too low / not high enough for a Trail boss. GMA already caught the ZR2 (link above) and this definitely ain’t it. I think Z71 is spot on. Thanks for keeping us informed Alex and Jonathan.
GMA reported “leveled”. This would be a new development if the Z71 featured any change to ride height.
Not unless they’re leveling the entire lineup, which is what I suspect is taking place here.
GM did the same thing with the 2023+ Colorado and Canyon, which sit much more level than the last gen.
Considering how screwed up the recall is for 6.2L engines, I’m probably going to have to jump ship to Ram. My 2021 makes more nose than my 52 six banger. My 2003 has no rockets left. My 2017 wheel wells are showing signs of cancer. I can’t keep rewarding a company that builds such low quality vehicles
Considering they all do, maybe you should buy used. Then your money no longer goes to any of them.
You can also see first hand how well it is holding up over time before buying.
Then buy another used once that one rusts out.
By all means, go for it. Just don’t google Ram 1500 recalls first.
I mean my 2003 has no rockers left either but I don’t blame GM for that completely. their design isn’t perfect but show me any 22yo truck that’s actually used for work that isn’t rusting out in the salt region.
I blame governments just as much for spreading all the corrosive stuff they can days before any storm, or like in my area just spray the liquid stuff all winter long because the temp is below freezing and god forbid anyone have to drive any more carefully in January than July.
If you want new trucks just expect problems. They’re computers with wheels and made as cheaply as possibly as long as they get through the warranty. Some will be good but I’m guessing recalls aren’t going to become and less frequent in the coming years.
Bring back the 6.0.
Still no coil springs in the rear?
No thank you. Purpose of coils in the rear is to loosen the spring rate, which requires a a multi link setup so the axle doesn’t wrap with the wimpy springs. FYI, this nerfs your trucks ability to control trailers and loads. There’s a reason RAM is last amongst the big towers. FYI, you want a car like ride, go buy a car.
I know, it’s sad. F. O. R. D. Fix or repair daily or Ram. Out of a country of 350 million people, there are only three USA auto companies to pick from. They basically all have the same specs, boring colors, black interiors and all made by the same labor union. There really isn’t much of difference between them.
Toyota still makes the Tundra, but they screwed up with the latest generation. It’s possible Nissan decides to bring back the Titan, but the Big 3 should really worry about Kia and Hyundai. I would not be surprised if they start with a midsize truck and then consider making full-size 1/2 ton trucks in a few years.
Always some Asia import humper on domestic sites. If Toyota and their cash war chest couldn’t figure out the American truck market, what makes you think Korea figured it out?. BTW how’s Hyundai’s phony truck entry doing against the Maverick?
Trail boss should tack the shocks closer to the wheels like a ZR2, just my opinion
I think the 6th Gen. small block is going to be the start of a bullet proof V8 for years to come! I have been a faithful GM owner since the early 70s and will never jump ship! I’ll take the good with the bad just like faithful dodge and ford owners should do in my book. I can assure you that I’ve had a heck of alot more good than bad. But, If your going to jump ship, make sure your ship don’t have leaks!!
Fix the motor and transmission first.
