2026 GMC Hummer EV 3X Pickup Gets Significant Towing Capacity Increase

The 2026 GMC Hummer EV marks a major update for the all-electric off-roader, bringing with it a host of enhancements covering the all-electric off-roader’s performance, utility, and design. For example, the latest model year introduces the Carbon Fiber Edition, billed as the quickest production Hummer ever made, plus the new King Crab mode for enhanced off-road maneuverability. Additionally, the new 2026 Hummer EV also introduces a substantial increase in towing capacity for the 3X Pickup trim.

The 2026 GMC Hummer EV gets a big boost in towing capacity.

Compared to the preceding model year, the 2026 GMC Hummer EV 3X Pickup offers an additional 2,100 pounds of towing capacity, climbing from 8,500 pounds (3,856 kg) to 10,600 pounds (4,808 kg). This figure applies to the standard 3X configuration, however, for those opting for the Extreme Off-Road Package, the tow rating remains unchanged from the 2025 model year at 7,500 pounds (3,402 kg). The 2X trim is also more or less unchanged, rated at 12,100 pounds for the 2026 model year, an increase of only 100 pounds compared to 2025.

Another highlight of the 2026 lineup is the exclusive Carbon Fiber Edition, which is available for both the Pickup and SUV body style. In addition to distinctive aesthetic elements, this variant features updated propulsion calibration, software tuning, and hardware upgrades, which combine with the high-output 24-module battery system to achieve an impressive 0-to-60 mph time of just 2.8 seconds, shaving roughly two-tenths off the benchmark.

Off-road enthusiasts will also benefit from the debut of King Crab mode. Equipped as standard on all 2X and 3X trims, this feature leverages the Hummer EV’s four-wheel steering system to allow the rear wheels to turn more more quickly than the front, dramatically improving low-speed agility in technical terrain. Importantly, owners of 2022 through 2025 models will also gain access to King Crab mode via an over-the-air software update expected later this year.

All variants of the GMC Hummer EV ride on the GM BT1 platform and are assembled at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan. The start of regular production (SORP) for the 2026 model year is scheduled to begin July 14th, 2025.
