2026 GMC Canyon AT4X Becomes A Standalone Trim Level Again

The 2026 GMC Canyon AT4X off-road pickup will be available as a standalone trim level rather than as a package upgrade, reversing a short-lived change made for the 2025 model year.

The Canyon AT4X became an option package last year, but is now set to once again take its own spot in the GMC Canyon trim level cadence, occupying the slot above the standard Canyon AT4 trim in terms of off-road capability and premium content.

The 2026 GMC Canyon AT4X will be a standalone trim level.

Previously, for the 2025 model year, the AT4X package was only available in conjunction with the AT4 Premium Package (RPO code PCU) and the Technology Package (RPO code PDG), the combination of which included high-end features like leather upholstery, a head-up display, and a Bose premium audio system – all of which were equipped standard on the standalone 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X trim level.

The latest change for 2026 effectively realigns the Canyon AT4 and AT4X as separate trims, mirroring the structure used for the 2023 and 2024 model years. That said, the AT4X AEV Edition remains an optional upgrade (RPO code XEV), building on the Canyon AT4X with even more off-road agility.

As in years past, the 2026 Canyon AT4X is equipped with a range of hardware designed specifically for off-road enthusiasts. Highlights include Multimatic DSSV dampers, enhanced ground clearance, front and rear electronic locking differentials, improved approach angles, and robust underbody skid protection. The Canyon AT4X also rolls on a set of 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires.

All 2026 GMC Canyon variants cradle the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which is rated at 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 430 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm, connecting to the GM eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2026 GMC Canyon AT4X continues to ride on the updated GMT 31XX platform, as is the case for the rest of the third-generation Canyon lineup. Vehicle assembly takes place at the GM Wentzville Assembly plant in Missouri.

  1. What were they thinking to begin with last year?

  2. Here’s a thought ( or class action ) I paid over 10 thousand dollars for the Duramax and Allison in ny silverado 2500. The problem is ( fraud ) the Allison is NOT an Allison . It’s a transmission built by Ford and GM. Not Allison ! And GM issued a recall on it already.
