Off-road enthusiasts have been clamoring for years for GM to produce a body-on-frame SUV to do battle with the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco in the narrow niche of off-road SUVs from American brands. However, GM has shown no interest in building such an SUV, instead pointing off-road nuts to the ZR2 and AT4X versions of Chevy and GMC trucks and SUVs. However, Flat Out Autos of Jonesboro, Arkansas takes matters into its own hands and builds modern-day GMC Jimmy conversions like this one up for auction on Bring a Trailer.
This truck started its life as a very humble GMC pickup. It was a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited Pro with a single cab, a long bed, and 4-wheel drive. A few of the options on its window sticker include the 5.3L V8 L84, the Convenience Package, a heavy-duty locking rear differential, a Trailering Package, and a 2-speed transfer case with Off-Road mode. The sticker price comes to a modest $41,965.
Flat Out Autos took apart this pickup, shortened the frame, opened up the cabin to go into the bed, and installed a roll bar and bench seat that creates an open-air experience for the rear passenger when the top is off. A large bed topper converts this from a pickup to an SUV in a pinch, completing the GMC Jimmy aesthetic.
Curiously, the Carfax and the window sticker say that this is a 2022 Sierra Limited, which means it should have the pre-facelift aesthetics of the T1-based Sierra. However, the front end of this model is from the 2022+ facelift. This is likely because the front end of the truck was swapped out with a nose from an AT4, and Flat Out Autos must have used a non-Limited 2022 or newer Sierra AT4 as the donor.
Other modifications include 22-inch Fuel wheels with Nitto Ridge Grappler all-terrain tires, a lifted suspension system, Fox BDS-series shocks, tan leather interior upholstery with white stitching, and AMP Research retractable side steps.
As of this writing, the high bid on this GMC Jimmy is $70,000. The auction ends on Friday, June 6th. Get your bids in now, because we can almost guarantee that GM won’t build a truck quite like this one.

The money that GM could print with 3 of these, and it’s not like they’d have to try hard, make a Z71, an AT4, and one hell of an Escalade personal luxury coupe. Don’t bother with base models.
You definitely aren’t in touch with customers and the business case this doesn’t provide. They would sell for the first 6 months and then languish on the lots. No one wants 2 doors, as cool as it looks some of you can’t get it through your heads what doesn’t sell. If it did, they would build them, but they haven’t for over 20 years. Cool concept, neat for those that want one to do one off, but a money losing case if they tried to recreate it today. Coupes are gone which are more heart string tugging than these…
Yes, lots of us want 2 doors, but we want the 2-wheel drive. Go to any custom truck show with tens of thousands of spectators and many 2-door OBS Tahoes and Blazers, all want a new 2×2 Tahoe/Blazer. I’ve owned 2 two 90s Tahoes and 12 square body and first series Blazers. I hear it all the time…”I wish GM would build another 2-door 2-wheel because I’ll buy it. GM authority had a very nice proportioned 2×2 concept a few years ago, but it was just another dream teaser.
A 2X2?
Ever heard of a two door Bronco?
Time to log off grampa.
Hmmm, build it as an EV and sell 5,000 loosing money. Or build 30,000 with an ICE engine and make money.
