Two-Time Daytona 500 Champion Renews Contract With NASCAR Chevy Team

William Byron had big shoes to fill when he joined Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) for the 2018 Cup Series season, stepping into the legendary No. 24 NASCAR Chevy made iconic by Jeff Gordon. Since then, he’s made the number his own, and he’s not going anywhere. Byron recently renewed with HMS, locking in his place on the team for another four years.

Byron penned a new contract with HMS that will keep him behind the wheel of the No. 24 NASCAR Chevy through the 2029 Cup Series season. He’s certainly proved himself worthy of the ride, winning two consecutive Daytona 500s in 2024 and following it up with a surprise victory in 2025. In fact, he’s only the fifth driver in the sport’s history to accomplish that feat – and he’s the youngest driver to do so, too.

Since Rudy Fugle stepped up as crew chief in 2021, Byron has amassed 13 race wins, which is the second-highest number among all drivers during that timeframe.

“We’ve built something special with the No. 24 team,” said Byron in a team release. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue working with amazing people at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick. We’ve accomplished some great things that we’re really proud of, but we have even bigger goals ahead. I’m excited to go after them with this team and this organization.”

Rick Hendrick, owner of HMS, added, “William is the real deal. What makes him so special is that he combines natural ability with an unrivaled work ethic. You see it in the great ones – the drivers who could get by on talent alone but choose to outwork everyone anyway. That’s William. On top of it all, he’s a person of high character and embraces his role as a leader. We’re proud to have him in our lineup and look forward to many more wins together.”
