There Will Be An ICE 2026 Chevy Blazer As GM Changes Plans

GM is now expected to offer the 2026 Chevy Blazer in the U.S., reversing course on plans to discontinue the ICE-powered Chevy Blazer following the conclusion of the 2025 model year.

The decision follows a GM Authority report published in February that the ICE-powered Blazer would be dropped from the U.S. market after 2025.

GM will offer the 2026 Chevy Blazer in the U.S.

GM’s crossover lineup has seen a good deal of reshuffling over the course of the past several months, at least internally. Back in January, GM Authority reported that the first-gen Cadillac XT5 and XT6 would be discontinued in North America at the end of the 2025 model year. However, in April, a report from CNBC indicated that GM had changed plans, and that while the Cadillac XT6 was still set for discontinuation after the 2025 model year, the Cadillac XT5 would remain in production until the end of the 2026 model year.

Currently, the ICE-powered Chevy Blazer is assembled at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico, which is also home to production of the Chevy Equinox EV, Cadillac Optiq, Chevy Blazer EV, and Honda Prologue. As such, Ramos Arizpe will continue to support both EV and ICE-powered vehicle production, with the ICE-powered Blazer rolling off the line as the only non-electric model built at the facility. The 2025 Chevy Blazer is currently expected to end production on December 24th, 2025, however, the recent decision to offer the 2026 Chevy Blazer in the U.S. may affect this date.

Under the hood, the ICE-powered 2026 Chevy Blazer will continue to offer two engine options, including the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine and the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine. Under the skin, the Blazer rides on the GM C1 platform.

Notably, the Blazer’s sales performance in the U.S. has been in decline for several years. After reaching a high of 94,599 units sold in 2020, Blazer sales have consistently decreased, with just 52,576 units sold in 2024. During the first quarter of the 2025 model year, GM sold 14,837 units of the Blazer, a decline from roughly 16,600 units sold during the same period in 2024.

  2. That’s because EVs are selling like Ol Mary thought they would.

Now make an SS twin turbo 3.6L and suttle cues from the EV model (because in SS form its very nice looking) Paddle shifters, lowered stance and I’d be very enticed!

    1. I would rather the blazer be the boring SUV it is. GM should keep SS to Camaro.

    2. Would you still be enticed if that model you described was priced at $70-80K?

    3. It’s not body on frame so that would be a bad idea.

      1. There is always the Latin American Trailblazer Diesel 4X4 as well, which is sold under the Tahoe/Suburban in some markets….
It would make a good competitor to the 4R and the upcoming Nissan Xterra gas…

    4. Solution: Fire Ms Mary and put someone that ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING (eg: Maybe Mr Mark Reuss or Mr Duncan Aldred). Even with their flaws, they know better than she does.
      And READ BEFORE DOWNVOTING.

  3. Good, but shame its reliability is dreadful.

    1. They sorted most of these engine issues out….Maybe you are thinking of the 09-11/12 which have terrible problems, esp when they are abused, and even when they are NOT abused…

  6. The blazer would sell a lot better if they weren’t giving away the EV version. People are not buying the equinox ev or blazer EV over the gas version because they want an EV. They are buying them because of the price. Here in Michigan to lease an AWD 3lt cloth blazer with an MSRP of $43k it’s $550 a month. To lease a similar blazer EV its $400 a month despite it being $55k. I don’t want an EV but if I was shopping for a blazer I would get the EV and save $150 a month. Who wouldnt? The equinox ev is the same way. Over $150 a month less for the EV model despite having a higher MSRP.

    1. And this is why we are in so much financial debt as a nation from auto industry! Because like you said people ONLY look at the payment per month! They don’t care the AMOUNT they are financing. Horrible and ignorant way to look at things.
I see guys all the time come in buying $80k to $150k boats and they finance them for 15 to 20 years and brag that their monthly payment is only $400 or $500!!! Not understanding that after the term of the loan they have paid for this boat almost 1 and 1/2 times more than initial msrp!!!

    2. It would sell a lot better if it were based off the Colorado platform competing with the 4 runner.

      1. The good news is they have one already for Latin America. 4×4, Body on Frame, 2.8 Diesel I4 to compete with the Fortuner…

      2. I’d buy one but it would have to launch with better quality than the current generation Colorado did.

Zero interest in the current grocery-getter Blazer.

  7. I think anybody who buys an EV wants an EV, for the right price.

  8. All I want. Is a removable roof, Jimmy or Blazer. GM needs to stop being boring and make some cool stuff.

  9. Ordered a Blazer from my trusted dealer back in August of 23. Since they also sell Hyundai, GM still hasn’t excepted the order. Called GM several times, they could care less.
