Some 2025 Chevy Trax Units Need A Brake Master Cylinder Replacement

Certain 2025 Chevy Trax crossovers need a replacement of the master brake cylinder to correct reduced brake performance according to a new service update from General Motors.

Specifically, GM Service Update number A252503090 states that affected 2025 Chevy Trax units will experience reduced braking, a malfunction indicator lamp illuminated on the dash and limited top speed for the vehicle until the remedy is applied.

Unusually, the service update only applies to 2025 Chevy Trax units still in dealership inventory that have the master brake cylinder problem. Dealer service personnel should confirm the involvement of a specific unit before they begin repairs on the vehicle. The service update expires on May 31st, 2026, effectively one year from now.

The remedy consists of replacing the brake master cylinder. The power brake booster and electronic brake control module are replaced at the same time. With only a limited quantity of replacement cylinders available, dealers shouldn’t order the component until an affected Trax unit is located in inventory.

A very small number of 2025 Chevy Trax crossovers are affected by this bulletin, though the total number is unclear.

The 2025 Chevy Trax ranks among the most affordable new vehicles currently available in the United States. Thanks to this and its modern styling and features, the Trax is a highly popular Bow Tie model in spite of a moderate price increase and a destination freight charge increase from $1,295 to $1,395. The starting MSRP of the 1LS trim has risen to $21,895. Pricing of all other trims, including 1RS, 1LT, 2RS, and Activ, climbed by $500. The 2RS and Activ trims both start at $25,895.

The 2025 Trax is now E85 fuel-capable thanks to replacement of the previously equipped  1.2L I3 LIH engine. The current turbocharged 1.2L I3 LBP gasoline engine develops 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, the same as the previous powerplant.

  2. I’m confused, the bulletin only applies to vehicles in inventory and are identified by an idiot light on the dash and decreased performance. If they’re still in inventory (unsold), how will they know they have reduced driving performance and a warning light on the dashboard. What about the unit sold last week that has the faulty symptoms? Are they not covered because they are no longer in inventory? Doesn’t make sense. And here we go again with crappy new components. When is GM going to overhaul their QC and Supply Chain departments.

Better than botching years of lifters and bearings, but still. 100-plus year old technology with no excuses for messing it up.
