Some 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ Units Will Need Front Door Replacements

Because of a metal splitting issue, certain 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ units will need to have their front doors replaced, according to a new service update issued by General Motors.

2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ electric SUVs with the problem are fitted with front doors on which the metal may split near the front inner door panel, according to GM Service Update number N242491090.

Either the driver or passenger side door, or both, can be affected by the issue. Dealership service personnel are instructed to inspect 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ units brought to the dealer for any reason by owners as well as Escalade IQ SUVs still in inventory. If split metal is found, the remedy should be applied free of charge to the owner (if any).

To fix the problem, service technicians should replace one or both front doors that are affected by the metal splitting issue. The dealer shouldn’t order doors as shelf stock because the number of Escalade IQ doors currently available is limited. The doors will need to be painted to match the vehicle at the dealership, increasing installation time by 6 hours per door.

The remedy is available through the end of the SUV’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.

GM is already planning several changes to the model for the 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ. One of these is a simple renaming of the four existing trim levels from Luxury 1, Sport 1, Luxury 2 and Sport 2 to the Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury and Premium Sport.

The 2026 Escalade IQ will also turn the standard 24-inch wheels offered on the lowest two trims into standalone options. The Luxury and Sport will now come equipped with 22-inchers instead.

Both model years of the Cadillac Escalade IQ are propelled by twin electric motors fed by a 205 kWh battery pack. Power output will continue to amount to 750 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque. The single-charge maximum range is estimated at 460 miles.

  3. Having to replace doors on new $130-$150k+ vehicles isn’t going to earn you “Standard of the World”.

  5. GM still struggles to consistently produce quality, reliable vehicles. They are fortunate that Ford is worse in warranty and recall expense. Can’t see GM market penetration increasing currently.
Long time GM owners we have now had 4 Hondas which have been quality, reliable vehicles. Doubt we will ever go back.

    1. Funny you mention market share. Ford and GM with their current “leadership” emphasized ATP and profit margin over market share. Well, we see how that worked out. These two companies have handed segment after segment to the competition and their quality problems have eaten into the profit margins. The only way you can get away with charging high prices and increased average transaction price is to offer a PREMIUM product. If anything, the product at GM and Ford have become even more mediocre with massive quality issues to boot. I consider this time we are in to be Malaise 2.0 and Barra and Farley along with inept politicians are leading the way.

    2. IOW we’re in the 1980’s malaise era all over again.

At least we don’t have dismal carbureted 305’s this time, but current quality and reliability isn’t much better.

  7. I’d be very unhappy about this if I was an owner. Some years ago I had a new car that was in for service and the dealership staff raised it up on the lift with the drivers door open. They then wheeled some sort of a large tool box or tool over to the car and when they lowered it back door, the door stuck the tool box/tool putting a huge dent in the bottom of the door. Naturally they didn’t tell me what happened and when I confronted them they told me I “must’ve hit a rock”. The rocker panel was pristine though so they eventually had to own up to what’d happened and explain the source of the mysterious damage.

Fixing the damage proved to be extremely difficult though as a newly painted door always looked like what it was; a replacement door whose paint didn’t match. They said they’d repaint the whole drivers side of the car. I refused. Then they started taking doors off of other cars in inventory until they got a factory finished door that matched well. It took three tries. The whole episode was a nightmare. I was admittedly picky but it was a two-month old car that I’d just payed a lot of money for. I’m sure some unfortunate person ended up with a brand new car with probably five miles on it that had the repaired door from my car.

All that to say this, replacing a door isn’t that simple. I think it’s still hard to get it right and it could be a big deal for the owners of these Escalade IQs. I
