Roadgoing GM Super Cruise Equipped Vehicles Doubled Year Over Year

Adoption of the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist technology appears to be spreading like wildfire among buyers, with the number of vehicles equipped with the tech more than doubling, according to The General.

Early in its Q1 2025 earnings report, GM says vehicles featuring Super Cruise rose by 230,000 units year-over-year, “a more than 100-percent increase.”

While we don’t have all the figures, this should bring the total of Super Cruise equipped vehicles on the roads to over 400,000. This is considerably higher than the 380,000 total units the automaker expected to be in use by the end of 2024, which was itself considered an upbeat prediction. Dave Richardson, GM Software and Services Engineering VP, said that number could double in 2025.

Super Cruise is also being equipped on a greater number of GM models than at any time in the past, the automaker points out. The tech is now widespread both in various GM crossovers and its full-size SUV portfolio. The earnings presentation also pointed out the driver assist system is now equipped as standard on almost all of the rapidly growing stable of Cadillac EV nameplates.

Not content to rest on the laurels of its success, GM also noted that it continues the development of Super Cruise. New features include auto-engage of the system when it is on an enabled road, an upgrade that is appearing on some 2026 model-year vehicles. Intelligent speed control and automatic lane changes while following routes have also been added.

Level 3 and higher autonomous technology is under development for Super Cruise, with GM’s autonomous vehicle subsidiary Cruise helping the main company in this project. Other advanced driver assist systems or ADAS are expected to be created by the collaboration.

Expected Super Cruise road coverage.

The network of Super Cruise enabled roads is also growing explosively. The system’s maps added about 160,000 miles to the total in 2024, with coverage of 750,000 miles currently expected by the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, Dynamic Map Platform from Michigan, the company that supplies Super Cruise with data, says it will have 1.2 million miles of roads mapped by the end of the year.
