On May 15th, the automaker’s luxury brand launched the 2025 Cadillac Escalade in the domestic market of Japan, which becomes one of the last Cadillac submarkets worldwide to introduce the mid-cycle update of the iconic full-size SUV’s fifth generation. The 2025 Escalade immediately arrives in the Japanese market as the niche flagship utility vehicle while maintaining its left-hand-drive configuration.

“From the first model that appeared in 1999 to the current fifth gen that went on sale in 2020, the Cadillac Escalade has sold more than one million units as America’s leading luxury full-size SUV, and has earned overwhelming support from premium car users around the world,” said Cadillac Japan. “The new Cadillac Escalade, which reflects Cadillac’s latest design language adopted from the brand’s first EV, the Cadillac Lyriq, has evolved even further,” the brand added.

The refreshed 2025 Cadillac Escalade launches in the Japanese market with Platinum and Sport trim levels, accompanied by a special Sport Launch Edition that will be offered in limited quantities at the beginning of the model year. The 2025 Escalade Sport Launch Edition features a unique color scheme.

All versions of the refreshed 2025 Cadillac Escalade in Japan come standard with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 engine developing 420 horsepower and 624 Nm or 460 pound-feet of torque, mated exclusively to GM 10-speed automatic transmission. It also includes four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case and five drive modes.

The refreshed 2025 Cadillac Escalade is now available for sale at authorized Cadillac dealerships in Japan. Each trim level features a distinctive appearance combining boldness and elegance with top-level equipment packages. The extensive technological offering is highlighted by the massive 55-inch pillar-to-pillar curved display, advanced driving systems, and unique 24-inch wheels.

Here are the prices for the 2025 Cadillac Escalade in the Japanese market, with the Sport Launch Edition version limited to 50 units in an exclusive metallic gray color with monochrome badges:

  • 2025 Escalade Platinum: 18,900,000 yen (about $130,050 USD at the current exchange rate)
  • 2025 Escalade Sport: 19,500,000 yen ($134,160 USD)
  • 2025 Escalade Sport Launch Edition: 19,950,000 yen ($137,250 USD)

  1. Absurdly enormous vehicle for Japanese roads.

    1. They simply don’t have a following in Japan.
Japanese people also generally do not have as large families as people in the Middle East do, which also plays a role in why these SUVs don’t sell.

I remember I visited Japan and NEVER SAW A SINGLE LEXUS LX either. Those are pretty rare as well. Again, not preferred by Japanese, even though they build them there (and is the direct competitor to the Cadillac).

Japanese prefer Kei cars, not oversized trucks and SUVs. To that end, Chevrolet did try and sell a Kei car based on Suzuki but failed because it was too big compared to the standard Kei car…..
