Next-Gen Jeep Compass Revealed As Eventual Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain Rival

An all-new Jeep Compass crossover has debuted for the European market. Due to changing U.S. trade policy, it has yet to be confirmed for North America. Its design characteristically blends classic Jeep design cues with a modern look. Three powertrain types will be available: mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric.

“The new Jeep Compass boldly represents the brand’s forward-thinking philosophy, highlighting our dedication to not only meeting today’s market demands but also anticipating tomorrow’s opportunities,” European Jeep boss Fabio Catone said. “This vehicle is the perfect expression of the Jeep ruggedness and performance, delivering state-of-the-art solutions while preserving our commitment to electrification and sustainability. Crafted for outdoor adventures yet perfect for everyday use, the new Jeep Compass stands as a powerful testament to our relentless pursuit of innovation and versatility, designed to meet the diverse needs of customers around the world.”

The mild hybrid, which Jeep calls e-Hybrid, uses a 48V system with 145 horsepower and front-wheel drive. The e-Hybrid plug-in setup will make 195 hp, but details are forthcoming on electric range and efficiency. Finally, the BEV option will be available in three configurations, producing 213 hp with FWD and up to 375 hp with AWD.

Jeep anticipates a maximum range for the EV version of the new Compass to be a little over 400 miles using the European WLTP cycle, which always nets higher range ratings than EPA testing. It says it will be capable of charging from 20 to 80 percent in 30 minutes with DC fast charging at speeds up to 160 kW.

Stellantis confirmed in a statement to Car and Driver that it has “temporarily paused work on the next-generation Jeep Compass [in North America], including activities at the Brampton Assembly Plant.” It sounds like the original plan was to build this Compass in Canada for the North American market, and that plan is currently on hold.

The new Jeep Compass First Edition is available to order now in Europe with deliveries beginning in Q4 2025. Since it’s bigger than the outgoing Compass, this will likely rival the Chevy Equinox, Chevy Equinox EV, and GMC Terrain if and when it arrives in North America.

  1. Debut that atrocity in the US market and it will be dead in it’s first year. People want an EV variant Jeep about as much as they want herpes. I’ve owned Jeeps for the last 30 years and all this EV Jeep nonsense does is fill me with sadness.

    1. I gotta say, I rolled into the Jeep dealer to lease an ICE Wrangler Sport S and rolled out with a higher-content Wrangler Sahara 4xe for the same price. I was hesitant about it being a plug in hybrid. I never had one, nor was I interested in it. In fact, I was against electric cars in general. But now that I’ve had it a couple of years I love it. I love silent driving. I love not going to the gas station often. It’s a small lifestyle change (making plugging in a habit, for instance), but I’m enjoying it so far.

  2. US is getting a new Cherokee so the fact that this thing has grown so much means that it’s probably not coming to America.

    1. Sad that you can only draw a box one way. It’s hard to make this thing look different. It needs to be lowered and made into a sports sedan. LOL
