Here’s When 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 Production Is Scheduled To Start

The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 will mark the eighth model year of the fourth-generation light-duty pickup, bringing only minor updates compared to the previous 2025 model year. Critically, the 2026 Sierra 1500 will be the fourth-gen’s final model year before the launch of the next-gen Sierra for the 2027 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned when production of the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 will officially get under way.

The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 will begin rolling off the line this summer.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 is set for July 7th, 2025. Initial builds will include the Double Cab and Crew Cab body configurations, while production of Regular Cab units is slated to start one week later on July 14th, 2025. Dealer order submissions will open up on May 1st, 2025. Production of the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 will once again take place at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana and the GM Silao Assembly plant in Guanajuato, Mexico.

As expected with a carry-over model year, the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 will introduce only minor changes compared to the 2025 Sierra, while a far more substantial update is expected with the arrival of the fifth-generation pickup for the 2027 model year, as GM Authority has covered extensively.

Highlights of the forthcoming fifth-gen Sierra include the debut of the sixth-generation GM Small Block gasoline engine, which looks to promise performance improvements and a 10-percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to the current powertrains. GM will also offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain option, while the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine and TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine are expected to carry over. Under the new body panels, the next-gen model will be underpinned by the new T1-2 platform, an evolution of the current T1 architecture.

The 2027 Sierra will also feature an all-new exterior design, a thoroughly updated cabin, and the latest GM infotainment goodies.

As always, stay tuned to GM Authority for more coverage of the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 and the forthcoming next-generation GMC Sierra.
