As is the case for the current 2025 model year, the 2026 Chevy Silverado HD will once again offer impressive towing and hauling capability, rugged durability, and modern tech features. Only minimal changes are expected with the launch of the new 2026 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned when production of the 2026 Chevy Silverado HD will officially get under way.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2026 Chevy Silverado HD will begin on August 11th, 2025. That includes all available body configurations for the heavy-duty pickup, covering Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab variants. Dealers will be able to configure the vehicle online and save orders for the 2026 Silverado HD on June 12th, 2025.
The 2026 model year brings only minor updates compared to the outgoing 2025 Silverado HD, with just a few cosmetic changes on the list. Among them are new paint options, with Iridescent Pearl Tricoat (paint code G1W) set to be replaced by Polar White Tricoat (paint code G4J). Slate Gray Metallic (paint code GNO) will also likely be phased out.
Mechanically, the Silverado HD remains unchanged. Under the hood, you’ll find two familiar powertrain options, starting with the standard naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, delivering 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Customers will also have the option to spec the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax, which is rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission, with both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations on offer.
Under the skin, the 2026 Silverado HD rides on a heavy-duty variant of the GM T1 platform. Production will continue at the GM Flint Assembly plant in Michigan and the GM Oshawa Assembly plant in Canada.
Looking further ahead, the Silverado HD is not expected to undergo a full redesign until the 2028 model year, which aligns with GM’s traditional product cadence. This timeline should mirror the rollout strategy for the current generation pickups, wherein the HD variant followed the launch of the light-duty 1500 by roughly one year.
