GMC Sierra AT4 Badly Needs A Blackout Package: Opinion

The GMC Sierra AT4 is a full-size pickup with a rugged style to match its off-road chops. We love its unique appearance package but think it could look even better with a proper blackout package. In fact, existing parts and accessories could be bundled together from GM’s parts bin with just a few new ones added to darken the Sierra AT4’s appearance and enhance its sporty off-road look.

Let’s start with some pieces the GMC Sierra AT4 could borrow from the Sierra Elevation. The Sierra Elevation offers an Elevation Black Package (RPO code PDF) that adds Black GMC emblems (LPO SFZ), all-weather floor liners (LPO RIA), and 6-inch Black rectangular assist steps (LPO RVQ). A Sierra AT4 blackout package would substitute its optional Off-Road Black assist steps but could use the same black GMC emblems and perhaps AT4-branded floor liners.

The Sierra Elevation also offers 20-inch 6-spoke high-gloss Black painted aluminum wheels (RPO RD3). These wheels have the same design (spoke pattern) as the standard wheels on the AT4 (RPO NZH) but a different finish. Swapping them out for the black 20-inch wheels on the Elevation would be a simple style upgrade.

The grille design on the Sierra AT4 is the same as the one on the SLT (see our guide on all 2025 GMC Sierra grilles) but with a black chrome finish and a gloss black header on the AT4. A blackout package would finish the same grille in gloss black, like the Elevation model’s grille. We like the dark(ish) chrome, but a gloss black grille would be more fitting for the option package we have in mind. For good measure, we’d also want black GMC emblems and exhaust tips.

We’d also want black AT4 badges throughout, such as on the lower portion of the grille, the doors, and tailgate. These were offered as an accessory as recently as January 2025, but they no longer appear on GMC’s accessories site. The accessory was called simply “Sierra AT4 Emblems in Black,” and was tagged with part number 86532078. Priced at $250, this accessory kit enabled owners to replace the standard chrome nameplate badge and trim badges with black versions.

Specifically, the accessory kit included:

  • Black tailgate nameplate badge
  • Black trim badges for the tailgate and both front doors
  • Black grille trim badge

We’d also like the Sierra AT4 black-out pack to get a new set of front fender badges without the decorate chrome.

So, we’d like to see a Sierra AT4 Black Package with:

  • Black alloy wheels (like RD3)
  • Black GMC emblems
  • Black (no chrome) front fender inserts
  • Black badging (with black AT4 badges)
  • Black grille
  • Black exhaust tips / finishers

Sierra AT4 Emblems in Black were available as accessories earlier this year

Interestingly, GM already has all of these parts, either on other Sierra trims (grille and wheels on Elevation), as options (black GMC emblems), accessories (black Sierra and AT4 emblems), or on the Silverado (dark HDMI-style exhaust tips are part of the Silverado Midnight Edition)… but for some reason, the automaker has not (yet?) created a package with these bits that’s available from the factory.

What do you think? Would you like to see darker styling on the off-road-ready GMC Sierra AT4, or do you prefer its current look?

    1. Why would it disappear if it’s in high demand?

What we’re proposing here would be an optional package. Not standard, but optional.

I happen to be the owner of the AT4 pictured here… and can’t stand the mix of half-black half-chrome treatment.

  5. Just make it an option for those that like all that black work trim. Like colors, everyone is different and have different taste. I honestly believe the blackout trend is waning away and appropriate combinations of brightwork or other accenting shades will once again offer the classic looks that serve the true test of time.

  6. Looks like the results so far are, no it doesn’t need a blackout package, at least not as standard equipment, but maybe offer it as an option for the kids who think that look is cool.

  7. What the AT4 needs is more color options, exterior and interior.
