GM Envolve Launches Drive Block Feature To Prevent Vehicle Theft

GM Envolve has introduced a new security feature for its fleet customers, providing fleet managers with the ability to remotely disable stolen vehicles.

The feature is dubbed Drive Block, and it is included in the OnStar Protect package and is available as part of the OnStar One Fleet bundle for 2025-or-later GM vehicles under GM Envolve. Essentially, Drive Block gives fleet managers control over a vehicle’s drive system without the need to contact an OnStar advisor. The feature was introduced in response to feedback from fleet customers seeking more direct security management.

“Thousands of vehicles are stolen every year and can’t always be recovered,” explains GM Envolve OnStar director Michelle Calloway. “While our customers have been able to remotely disable vehicles through an advisor, fleet managers have requested direct control over this security feature. Drive Block empowers them to do just that and take immediate action when theft occurs.”

In addition to Drive Block, GM Envolve offers several other advanced fleet management tools, including OnStar DualCam. This system captures video from both the vehicle cabin and the front windshield, providing a clear view of driver behavior and road conditions. DualCam integrates vehicle data to detect risky driving behaviors in real time, delivering instant alerts and providing video insights for coaching safer driving practices.

For those readers who may be unfamiliar, GM Envolve is General Motors’ integrated business-to-business (B2B) platform, designed to offer customized fleet solutions for commercial customers. GM Envolve provides access to a wide range of products and services, including electric vehicles (EVs), connected vehicle technology, fleet management tools, telematics, and charging solutions.

GM Envolve now includes the Chevy BrightDrop range of vehicles. Initially launched as a standalone GM subsidiary in 2021, GM later integrated BrightDrop into the GM Envolve brand in November of 2023, consolidating its fleet solutions under a single platform. GM also rebranded BrightDrop’s electric vans under the Chevrolet name in August of 2024, leveraging Chevrolet‘s extensive dealership and service network across North America.
