GM Authority reported in May 2023 that a lawsuit had been filed against General Motors regarding Duramax fuel pumps. We followed up in August 2024 that the lawsuit was nearing settlement, and now CarComplaints reports that the class action lawsuit has received final approval. According to Law360, it was a $50 million settlement, of which the class action attorneys will receive $15 million.
The lawsuit applies to 2011-2016 Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks equipped with the 6.6L V8 LML turbodiesel Duramax engine. It alleged that the engine is dangerous to operate because of a problem with the Bosch CP4 fuel pump. Since American diesel fuel is cleaner and provides less lubrication compared to European diesel, it can cause the fuel pump to run dry and create metal shavings and particles that get in the fuel system and, ultimately, the internals of the engine.
This applies to the GMT910 and the K2 generations of GM’s HD trucks since the LML Duramax V8 was used in both generations. The K2 trucks upgraded to the 6.6L V8 L5P Duramax diesel starting in 2017.
If you purchased a 2011-2016 Chevy Silverado HD or GMC Sierra HD with the 6.6L V8 LML Duramax engine from a GM dealership between March 1st, 2010 and September 13th, 2024, you’re included in the class action suits, but only in the following states:
- California
- Florida
- Illinois
- Iowa
- New York
- Pennsylvania
- Texas
The plaintiffs claimed repairs could cost up to $15,000 and alleged that GM knowingly sold trucks with faulty fuel pumps. Owners who paid out of pocket for said repairs with proof that the damage was caused by a bad fuel pump are entitled to reimbursement, but the amount of reimbursement depends on how many customers file valid claims. There’s also a renewed limited warranty period on the CP4 fuel pump that expires on May 7th, 2026, or until the truck reaches 200,000 miles, whichever comes first. However, owners will still pay for half of the repairs.

Attorneys receive 15 million!!!!! Wow, just wow
It’s simply amazing that only a few states qualify. Guess sulfur free diesel wasn’t offered in the other states like Arizona where I’m from. This is sickening.
So I have two questions, #1 does this mean Bosch is responsible for not building a proper pump? #2 i heard Ford still uses this pump, are they not having same issues?
they are, a friend of mine spent a ton of money to fix his f250
What about all the people who DIDN’T wait for their pump to self destruct? I spent 2 weeks and 3 grand replacing my CP4 for a CP3 on my 2015 2500 HD because of this. I also spent a small fortune before that on Hot Shot LX4 in an attempt to keep my CP3 from causing 20K worth of damage (that’s what it actually cost to repair). This is dirty pool GM. Everyone should have been covered out of pure shame, not a legal ruling.
Chump change compared to what Celestiq and F1 failure will cost them.
I stopped buying Bosch parts about 30 years ago because everything they make is garbage. Hopefully gm will learn.
Bosch=JUNK
All GM has to do now is sue bosch for $100 million ! As a mechanic i do have to say bosch makes junk !
Why is Arizona not on the list? My 2012 Duramax lml cp4 recently gave out and I paid close to 12 grand for parts and labor to install (upgrade) to a cp3 along with injectors, & cleaning the fuel tank. So how do I claim my cost?
What about us Duramax owners who haven’t switched to the CP3 yet and can’t even be part of the settlement until our CP4 fails? It just doesn’t make any sense. Extending the liability period to May 2026 feels like a joke. Honestly, I’m about ready to walk away from GM—seems like the bean counters are cutting too many corners to line the pockets of the bigwigs at the top.
Where do you go to, Steve-o?? Ford & Ram have a ton of issues also. When $hit stops being made in China, things will improve some…
If GM knows the pum p s are defective but have not failed yet , why not step up and replace them before they fail. Small price to pay out of their BILLIONS of dollars of profit each year. Their cost per pump is about 1/3 what it would cost the customer.
Google for the difference between U.S. diesel and European diesel, and you will quickly find out that European diesel has a higher quality, and is cleaner than U.S. diesel. No wonder, many high performance European cars have a diesel engine.
I bought a LML that qualifies but since I bought it in Mississippi, it doesn’t qualify even though I have around $15,000 in debt
G M continues to produce trucks no one wants . It’s a shame they can not build a solid V8 or Diesel engine and transmission. Plug in hybrid is pure crap . I have a 2024 2500 HD 6.6 gas . V8 . I have sent away for a kit to repair the transmission 10 speed slop G M produced ,
Who do I call to get this reimbursement I have spent $14,400 to repair my cp4 pump.
