It should go without saying that modern sports cars are insanely fast, posting acceleration times and power figures that, just a few years ago, were unthinkable for a street-legal, daily-driveable passenger vehicle. Nevertheless, mere mortals now have a shot at wheeling these machines without a fire suit or racing license, including sports cars like the C8 Corvette E-Ray. Now, we’re getting a dramatic demonstration of just how quick the E-Ray is as it lines up against a Chevy Camaro ZL1 Supercar in the following video.
Coming to us from Australian motoring outfit Drive.com.au, the video is a little under 17 minutes long, and includes a look at the Corvette E-Ray, the Camaro Supercar, and a few other interesting GM performance highlights.
As a brief refresher, the Corvette E-Ray is powered by the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine, the same V8 found in the C8 Stingray. However, in the E-Ray, the V8 is paired with a 1.9 kWh battery pack and front-mounted electric motor, the combination of which delivers 655 horsepower. The setup also gives the E-Ray all-wheel-drive grip for ultra-quick acceleration.
By contrast, the Camaro ZL1 Supercar is powered by a 5.7L V8 producing 600 horsepower, and it’s lighter as well, with a higher overall power-to-weight ratio.
Nevertheless, the Corvette E-Ray’s all-wheel-drive grip and instant torque quickly propel it past the Camaro, showcasing the hybrid Vette’s impressive capabilities.
However, the race cars have something more to say on the matter as the focus shifts to a track battle between the C8 Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1 Supercar. As a reminder, the Z06 is equipped with the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6, as well as upgraded aero and carbon-ceramic brakes. It’s a stout combo, but will it have what it takes to keep pace against the dedicated Camaro racer in the corners?

I LOVE the idea of the E-Ray. I wish they would put something similar in a Camaro wrapper.
They should add the E-ray setup to the Z06 to bridge the gap to the ZR1. 670 Z06 to 1,034 ZR1, seems the 670 Z06+160 ERay motor =830 a nice middle point between the two, maybe even call it a Grand Sport or bring back another historical name like Mako, Zora (though that is the ZR1 topping model it sounds like), Blue Devil or ZERV (Code name for Zora Engineered Reseach Vehicle).
