Chevy Equinox sales in Q1 2025 placed GM’s best-selling crossover in third place in a space of 15 entries in the mainstream C-segment crossover segment.
The Toyota RAV4 led, as it has for quite some time, in spite of an eight percent dip to 115,402 units, followed again by the Honda CR-V in second place with a nine percent uptick to 103,325 units. These two models were once again the only ones to surpass 100K sales. The Equinox (see running Chevy Equinox sales) remained in third with a 31 percent jump to 71,002 units, but still over 30k deliveries behind second place. The Nissan Rogue maintained fourth place with a 32 percent drop to 62,102 units, while the Hyundai Tucson moved into fifth with a 21 percent uptick to 54,973 deliveries.
The Subaru Forester traded places to take sixth with a three percent bump moving 49,865 units, while the Kia Sportage, corporate cousin to the Tucson, placed seventh with an 11 percent upswing to 41,301 units. The GM Authority Take
In the biggest utility market in the U.S., GM’s best-selling Chevy Equinox kept its third place spot among 15 entries in the mainstream C-crossover segment, while posting the biggest gain gain on a percentage basis. Even so, the RAV4 and CR-V remain much more popular, so much so that even combining sales of the Equinox and GMC Terrain (nearly 87K units) was still not enough to come close. Notably, the launch of the all-new Terrain trailed that of the next-generation Equinox by several months, which is navigating a generational changeover this quarter, explaining its poor sales performance.
Cumulative sales of the two models from Hyundai and Kia managed to get closer (at 96K units), but The General did outsell crosstown rival FoMoCo, whose Ford Escape and Bronco Sport saw 16K recorded 16K fewer units.
Once the Terrain finishes its generational changeover, GM will have a better shot at threatening the leaders… but it doesn’t look like the Equinox will be able to do that by itself.
About Chevrolet Equinox
The 2026 Chevy Equinox arrives largely unchanged compared to the all-new 2025 model year, introducing only a handful of modest updates. As GM Authority covered previously, this includes a revised paint options list.
The 2026 model offers the same turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine as before, which continues from the previous generation, producing 175 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque when paired with a CVT in front-wheel-drive models. In all-wheel-drive configurations, the Equinox is equipped with the GM eight-speed automatic transmission, while engine torque is increased to 203 pound-feet.
The 2026 Equinox doesn’t yet offer a trailering package, but should tow up to 1,500 pounds when it does.

Comments
The new Equinox is a nice ride. Much improved over the previous generation. I love the way it drives. Personally, I can’t do a CVT transmission or Evotex. All wheel drive gets an 8 speed but no way to get leather.
Evotex > Leather. Less maintenance, more durable, cooler (less susceptible to temp changes), lighter, cheaper and can be made softer than lower/mid grade leather. The softex in Toyota’s are softer than most models I have been in short of high-end luxury models. Wish they’d put this stuff in the off road trims (ZR2, AT4(X), etc) just for the maintenance and durability.
In Korea, Due to the weak KRW, imported cars priced at under 28,000$ have been wiped out. GM Korea need this car!
How are sales so strong since it only has 1 engine that is supposedly a dog? Aren’t dogs mostly quick?
I bet it would sell better with a hybrid and stronger base engine, some interior color choices, the ability to tow more, a luxury Premier trim level and a stronger reputation for quality. Those seem to be complaints I’m hearing from the ground and speaking with actual customers. Better MPG wouldn’t hurt either helped greatly by a hybrid option.
Hey Joe,
Good point.
But why is the Equinox EV not counted in sales?… I mean, I’m sure all the different RAV engine types are included in their numbers.
Agree. Trying to skip the transitional hybrid step and jump straight into full EV’s was an obvious strategic mistake even at the time. So much so that there was considerable internal descent within gm about the move. In the end it was a total top-down call.
And now they have half finished EV assembly plants, under utilized/unneeded battery plants and they’re scrabbling to develop plug-in hybrids (PHEV’s). The only problem is both market demand and consumer studies show that HEV’s (non-plug in hybrids) are what consumers want most (by a 7-1 margin).
Oops, was supposed to be a response to Joe Yoman.
Nice increase in sales, for an improved model. I was really considering a 2025 model, but I usually try to avoid a first year of a new model, so I WAS going to get a 2026 model, until the absolutely stupid tRump tariffs of 25% will hit the Equinox. Probably should have bought a 2025, but my dealer assured me that tRump would never slap a 25% tariff on them, ha little did he know.
2026 Equinox are on dealers’ lots right now, and the MSRP is exactly the same as the 2025s. No tariff impact.
Toyota just released the new RAV4. GM better get busy with the Hybrid Equinox!!
The new Rav is very bad styled….but …anyway…Toy ota’s fans will like it…..
No surprise as I see a lot of them on the road.
