A Chevy Corvette Z06 and a GMC Terrain were involved in a collision that sent six people to the hospital. The accident occurred in the Chicago suburb of Grayslake, Illinois on Sunday afternoon in the area of Peterson and Midlothian roads. According to the most recent reports, five of those injured are in stable condition and one is in critical condition.
More specifically, the vehicles involved in the accident were a C8 Corvette Z06 and a second-generation GMC Terrain. The front end and passenger side of the Z06 were smashed, and the Terrain was rolled on its side. Judging by the video above, it appears that the roof of the crossover was detached from the pillars by emergency response crews to extract the vehicle’s occupants.
NBC Chicago reports that one of the victims in the accident was a 12-year-old boy who was ejected from the back seat of the Terrain. The child was moved to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in critical condition, according to police. Fox Chicago reports that ambulances and fire departments were called in from surrounding cities in Northeast Illinois, including Mundelein, Libertyville, Countryside, Round Lake, and Lake Zurich.
This accident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsibly wielding modern high-performance sports cars in traffic. The C8 Z06 is an incredible track car, but pushing its capabilities on the street while sharing the road with the general public can lead to disaster. The 5.5L V8 LT6 mounted behind the driver in the Z06 pumps out a whopping 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
It’s also a reminder of the importance of safety testing, especially for family-oriented vehicles. The second-generation GMC Terrain earned a perfect 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The mechanically identical Chevy Equinox earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick award twice during the same generation. Safety ratings like these should be kept in mind if you’re shopping for a family vehicle.

I know looks can be deceptive, but it appears the Corvette fared better than the Terrain. Hope everyone makes a full recovery.
The Terrain look worst because firefighters had to do more cutting to extricate the passengers.
God speed to all
And soon on Ebay, Z06 drivetrain.
No matter what make of car we drive, we should always be alert. I am extremly carefull when I drive my vette. It can get away from you really fast.
Alot may not realize if they are at fault in an accident especially excessive speed and reckless driving they will be sued and the insurance company will deny there claim !
Apparently the SUV was attempting to make a left turn in front of the Z06. The question is who was at fault. I suspect the Corvette had the right-of-way, but if the Z06 driver was grossly exceeding the speed limit, one could understand how the SUV driver may have made an error. It will be interesting to find out.
Please Guys, we all know modern day Corvettes are fast. Find a safe place to prove it.
Most of us do. We (I) still don’t know the cause of the accident. I guess, while we are at it, we should also request that people have their children wear their seatbelts. The road looks like a combination of industrial and rural. I see what appears to be a warehouse on one side and a plowed field on the other side of the road. In my part of the world that would probably have a 50 – 55 mph speed limit. I’m not an expert on wrecked C8s, but that damage looks like it could be within the realm of possibility as the result of a roughly head-on impact at about that speed with an SUV. Hard to know without more facts.
