General Motors has just officially launched the brand-new 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV in China, just a couple of weeks after the debut of Buick’s all-new electrified MPV in the country.
The automaker’s SAIC-GM joint venture in China launched the brand-new 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV in the country’s domestic market as the brand’s entry-level new energy full-size MPV. The 2025 GL8 LS plug-in hybrid complements and strengthens the broad model offering of Buick’s most successful nameplate for Chinese customers.
Based on the same platform and body structure as the previous-generation GL8, the all-new 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV builds on the model’s most acclaimed attributes, and enhances them with more modern packaging, equipment upgrades and an all-new next-generation electrified powertrain. In fact, the 2025 GL8 LS debuts Buick’s all-new “True Dragon” plug-in hybrid propulsion system that combines fuel efficiency with high output.
Specifically, the brand-new 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV launches in China with an initial range of three trim levels, each configured with a distinctive set of equipment features: Entry, Smart, and Premium. All three come standard with three rows of seats in a 2+2+3 layout, a state-of-the-art multimedia system, and key safety technologies, with the Premium trim focused on the business segment.
Mechanically, the 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV features a powerful hybrid propulsion system, featuring a turbocharged 1.5L I4 engine and a plug-in electric propulsion unit that generates a total output of 292 kW or 392 horsepower, along with 580 Nm or 428 pound-feet of torque. The system is fed by a new battery pack, providing the longest overall driving range in its class at 1,420 km or 882 miles.
The brand-new 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV is now available for sale at Buick dealerships in China, the only country in the world where all models in the Buick GL8 MPV family are manufactured and sold. SAIC-GM claims the new GL8 LS integrates Buick’s 26 years of experience in the segment and represents the best entry-level new energy MPV on the market. Here is pricing for the GL8 LS PHEV in China:
- 2025 GL8 LS PHEV Entry: 249,900 yuan (about $34,380 USD at current exchange rates)
- 2025 GL8 LS PHEV Smart: 269,900 yuan ($37,130 USD)
- 2025 GL8 LS PHEV Premium: 289,900 yuan ($39,890 USD)

$40k for a top of the line minivan. It’s double that here. Thanks UAW.
Labor cost differential between union and non union workforce on the prices of a vehicle is insignificant. Maybe 3%, it sure isn’t double.
Why would we care about a new vehicle GM has available in China? How about USA?
GM Authority writes about global GM so the story is germane for the publication and brand. You may not be interested in it (seems you read it) but I’m curious about developments in other parts of the world.
I care about the USA, not China. If you care so much about other countries, then you should move there. Our country is going to hell because of attitudes like yours!!!
the more money they can make in China then the more money they could spend in USA. Not difficult….
Bring it to the USA !!
Build it in the USA.
Who cares.
Made in USA !!!!!! Not in china ! Thank u !
With that kind of range we could sure cut down on pollution and make clean vehicles more popular.
Where have you been ???? China produces 80 % of the world*d pollution. Has for the last 10 years. Provin facts in news media for years. Almost all plants burn DIRTY COAL.
Do you even know what pollution is ??? Of course you do. WE see it every time you open your MOUTH ???? Time to change your diaper too??? You STINK to high HEAVEN.
As if coal is dirty? Honestly don’t see how “that kind of range” would “cut down on pollution”. Probably runs 200ish miles on electric and 6 on gas. Batteries aren’t green, they’re just zero tailpipe emissions. And the person that thinks EV’s benefit the environment hasn’t the capacity to sort facts and fiction from the hype and stupidity produced by EPA. I do currently run a PHEV but not because it’s green, it’s slightly cheaper to run electric and it gives me a lot of chances to learn all about fixing high voltage battery systems as well as hybrid systems.
With sub-$3 gas I have little interest in paying a premium for a second propulsion system to maintain that saves a small amount of money. Pass. It seems that GM can’t wait to invest in hybrids to help save their massive EV investments. All I can say is good luck, throwing more money into a bad investment usually doesn’t help.
This should be sold in America.
Hopefully GM will bring this powertrain to the Traverse / Acadia / Enclave trio, maybe as optional on lower trims and standard powertrain for High Country / Denali / Avenir.
