Just days after the official launch of the all-new 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV, SAIC-GM has announced that the pre-sale period for the brand’s electrified MPV has successfully started in China.
General Motors’ main joint venture in China announced that the Buick GL8 LS PHEV has had a solid pre-sale start in the Asian country’s domestic market, registering strong initial demand that exceeded the automaker’s forecasts. In fact, the GL8 LS plug-in hybrid has accumulated a waiting list of more than 10,000 customer reservations in less than two weeks since its local launch.
In particular, SAIC-GM claims that the all-new 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV is being favored by Chinese consumers thanks to its longest range, lowest fuel consumption, and best-in-class space, while maintaining strong pillars such as the most comprehensive safety protection and brand reputation as competitive advantages. The new model meets the high customer demand for reliable and more efficient MPVs.
The joint venture announced it has activated a contingency plan to accelerate production of the 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV, ensuring new units are delivered to customers in a timely manner and with high quality. Additionally, Buick is launching a set of limited-time ownership benefits to reward customers who reserve their GL8 LS PHEV during the month of May for their trust and support.
Among customers who have reserved the Buick GL8 LS PHEV, SAIC-GM claims that all are replacement purchases, more than 90 percent are married with children, and nearly 70 percent use the car for family trips. Brand recognition, safety, comfort, and economy are the most popular factors among users and have attracted many families to upgrade from rival models they had originally considered to the GL8 LS.
The all-new 2025 Buick GL8 LS PHEV is now available for sale at Buick dealerships in China, the birthplace and only country in the world where the nameplate is marketed. The successful pre-sale start demonstrates that the new electrified GL8 variant will help consolidate the leadership of Buick’s full-size MPV family in the country, positioning it as the brand’s entry-level New Energy model.

I wonder how this compared to Toyota Alphard/Vellfire PHEV. Is the GL8 PHEV sold in Asian countries outside of China as well?
Not very sure, but price wise it may be cheaper…
That said, it does indeed compete with those two.
What engines does it use though?
Awesome for GM and Buick. They would sell plenty of these here in the US market.
no, people here like v8 and body-on-frame as haulers. just completely different life style.
in 2024 Toyota sold 75,000 minivans
Honda sold 80,000
Chrysler 119,000
General Motors, the nation’s biggest automaker, sold 0.
General Motors should make that Buick version here. It is already designed, just tailor it to the US market and build here. Sell a decontented version for Chevrolet for the masses and a luxury version for Buick that is marketed for upscale buyers and livery buyers. I think hotels and car services would love it. Much easier for passengers to get in back of a minivan than a Suburban. I think Buick could easily sell 50K of these and Chevy could match the range of the Sienna-Pacifica sales.
Who cares!
Wow! That sure is a thoughtful response!
I Agree with you bud. Are you on a 2018 Escalade ESV. I’d consider trading that in for one of those.
