Airplane Car Based On A GMC Sierra HD For Sale In Alabama

An interesting mashup of multiple GM trucks and an airplane is up for auction in Alabama. This Hagerty auction is for a 2005 GMC Sierra HD with a custom body that combines the fuselage of a 1974 Cessna RAM 421B with the front end of a 1954 Chevrolet 6400.

Although you wouldn’t know it by looking at the outside, this thing appears to use a mostly original chassis and powertrain from the 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD it’s based on. Power comes from a 6.0L V8 LQ4, also known as the Vortec 6000, which produces 300 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission.

This SUV (is this an SUV?) wears the face of a 1954 Chevy 6400 from the Chevy Advance Design era. That’s about it for GM-sourced skin; everything behind the hood is from a real airplane body. The wings were cut off to give it an appropriate width for road-going use. In total, this vehicle is 32 feet long and the top of the tailfin is 12 feet tall.

This six-seater is ready for family car duty. There’s no front passenger seat, but there are leather second-row captain’s chairs and a cloth third-row bench seat. There appears to be some cargo space behind the third row, but it’s probably not easy to access. Interestingly, much of the dash of the 2005 GMC Sierra HD appears to have been retained, but with a Cessna steering yoke and a Boss stereo.

This beast was featured on the show “Ridiculous Rides” in October 2023, but it had a different owner back then and didn’t look quite like it does now. It didn’t have the Advance Design front end or patriotic tailfin, and still had a propeller. In fact, we covered this ride back in 2018, and it’s changed quite a bit since then.

This car is offered for sale by The Rocket City Collection, borrowing the nickname of Huntsville, Alabama, the home of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. This custom SUV is offered with no reserve, and the high bid as of this writing is $2,600. But, it ends on Friday, May 30th, so there’s plenty of time for the high bid to go flying. Place your bids now for a chance to own a GM truck that’s guaranteed to turn heads, but might be challenging to park.

My comment was, in NO way, meant to disrespect those who serve. You have to know this is Trump’s MONUMENTALLY HUGE EGO to have this “show” on his birthday. Is there anyone out there who doesn’t know that the American Military has what it has? To spend millions of taxpayers money, in these tough times, is just blatant showmanship. Trump needs to temper his ego and do right by the taxpayers. That’s his actual job. He is so far removed from reality it’s scary. If it happens and I lived closer I would be the there to stand with hand over heart. This type of “Show” is and has been traditionally put on, almost exclusively, by Dictators around the world. Why don’t they just gather themselves up and put them on the table. My apologies.
