American Expedition Vehicles, otherwise known as AEV, has a long history of collaboration with GM, playing a part in the development of factory-ready off-roaders like the Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison and Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, as well as the GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition and GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition. Of course, AEV also offers a range of parts directly to consumers, covering a wide variety of needs for GM’s pickups. Now, AEV is offering this vertical spare tire mount for the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD heavy-duty pickup trucks.
Designed specifically for the 2020-and-newer Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, the AEV Vertical Tire Mount is built from durable tubular steel and finished with a multi-stage e-coat and powder coat, ensuring maximum resistance to corrosion and UV. The mount integrates seamlessly with the factory bed, and is adjustable to accommodate tire sizes up to 42 by 14.50 inches. The mount also includes reinforcement brackets that attach to the truck’s bulkhead and floor, providing enhanced stability, even during off-road use.
The mount is engineered for quick tire removal, allowing users to detach their spare in under a minute without any tools. The mount’s overall height was optimized to work with most aftermarket toppers.
AEV rates installation at a Moderate difficulty level, with an install time of roughly four hours. While the process can be completed solo, AEV recommends that a second person lends a hand to help secure the nut plates from underneath the truck bed. While the mount can be removed, it will leave behind four drilled holes in the bed.
The AEV Vertical Tire Mount works with both 6.5- and eight-foot bed configurations. AEV also notes that customers should consider purchasing an additional poly cone from Wilco Off-Road (part # UC60702) when using aftermarket wheels with hub bores larger than 3 5/8 inches in order to ensure proper fitment.
The AEV Vertical Spare Tire Mount for the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD is priced at $899, per AEV’s website. Production takes place in the USA.
