2026 Toyota bZ Woodland Debuts With No Direct GM Rival

Toyota is in the middle of something of a product offensive of EVs after years of being criticized for having only one uncompetitive electric vehicle in its North American lineup. In addition to the thoroughly refreshed 2026 Toyota bZ (formerly the bZ4X) and the reintroduced 2026 Toyota C-HR as an EV, the 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland has debuted as a rugged electric crossover mirroring the Subaru Trailseeker.

“With zero emissions and a powerful drive, the bZ Woodland is bringing outdoor-inspired style to our BEV lineup,” said Toyota Group president Dave Christ. “This latest entry in our bZ line embraces the spirit of adventure with surprising capability, rugged style, and an all-electric powertrain that’s backed by Toyota.”

The Toyota bZ Woodland is more than just an off-roady trim of the Toyota bZ. The Woodland is about six inches longer, sits higher with 8.3 inches of ground clearance, and comes with standard all-wheel drive plus other off-road features like X-Mode Dual-Mode (borrowed from Subaru) off-road settings, Grip Control, and Downhill Assist Control, making it more capable in snow, mud, or dirt.

Power comes from a pair of electric motors, one front and one rear, producing a combined 375 horsepower with AWD as standard. Properly motivated, the 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland can hit 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds, while towing capacity is set at 3,500 pounds. A 74.7 kWh battery provides the electrons and is good for over 260 miles of range while supporting up to 150 kW fast charging via a standard NACS-compatible port.

Inside, a 14-inch infotainment display comes standard, as does wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, SofTex seats (heated in front), and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. An optional Premium Package adds a JBL audio system, panoramic roof, ventilated front seats, and front radiant heater.

Although Chevy has two electric crossovers on the market, there are no variants of the Equinox EV or Blazer EV that compete with the Toyota bZ Trailseeker. GM’s only electric off-roaders are the GMC Hummer EV and the new-for-2026 Trail Boss and AT4 variants of the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. It would be interesting to see a Z71, Trail Boss, or even Activ variant of Chevy’s electric crossovers, but for now, they’re not very ambitious off-roaders.

The 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland will arrive in U.S. dealerships in early 2026.

  1. No surprise gm abandoned that market in North America. gm still builds cars, just don’t sell them here.

  2. Is this not just a “kind of off road LOOKING” version of the Blazer? I’ll be honest, everything just looks the same now anyway.

  3. More garbage that nobody wants. Electric off road vehicles? Make that make sense.

    1. Exactly what I was going to say. Automakers fail to ask prospective customers any more and just crank out nonsense for the sake of cranking out nonsense.

      1. Like most Fortune 500 companies, they’ve become an echo chamber of their giant shareholders (hedge funds) / boards assigned by those shareholders / execs hired by the board and compensated to promote certain agendas of the shareholders / then hire people that think the same as them.

  4. NEEDS AT LEAST A 399 RANGE BEFORE I WOULD CONSIDER.

  5. The photos are extremely dark, which strikes me as a good thing. In brighter light I fear we would all discover that this is a very ugly vehicle. Does the world really need another cyber truck front end?

  6. Looks like the grille melted off the front of the Zzzzzzzzzz. It would sell better with a V-8. They would have to change the name to Vroom from Zzzzzzzzzz.
