The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 is set to debut the final model year for the light-duty pickup’s current generation, and will serve primarily as a carryover before the debut of the all-new 2027 Sierra. Now, GM Authority has learned that the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 has been moved ahead by a few days.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the first units of the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 will roll off the line on June 28th, 2025. Previously, the first units were expected to hit production on July 7th, 2025.
The first new units of the 2026 GMC Sierra set to be produced will include Double Cab and Crew Cab body configurations, with Regular Cab models expected to hit production one week later. Dealers will be able to configure the 2026 Sierra 1500 online and save orders on May 1st, 2025, with the first orders to be processed on May 15th.
As is the case for the 2025 model year, assembly will take place at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana and the GM Silao Assembly plant in Guanajuato, Mexico. However, it remains unclear if both facilities will begin 2026 Sierra production on June 28th, or if that date only applies to the Fort Wayne facility.
As reported previously, GM CEO Mary Barra has stated that the Fort Wayne assembly plant will increase annual pickup production by approximately 50,000 units, a move prompted by new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. GM expects these tariffs to result in a financial impact of roughly $4 billion to $5 billion.
As stated above, the 2026 GMC Sierra is largely a carryover model, with far more significant changes on the horizon for the 2027 model year. Per previous GM Authority coverage, the upcoming 2027 Sierra will introduce GM’s next-generation sixth-generation Small Block V8 gasoline engine, which promises improved performance and a 10-percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the 2027 model is expected to offer a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, supporting GM’s strategy to reintroduce PHEV options to its North American lineup.
The 2027 Sierra will also feature a thoroughly redesigned exterior, an overhauled interior, new tech features, and the updated T1-2 platform.
