The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 serves as the final model year for the current fifth-generation light-duty pickup, and unsurprisingly, it brings with it only a handful of small changes compared to the 2025 model year. Among the most notable of these is the addition of two new paint color options, while two other hues will be deleted from the options list.
The new paint colors on offer for the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 include Glacier White Tricoat (paint code G4J) and Coastal Dune (paint code G42). To note, photos of the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 in either color are currently unavailable.
The two new hues replace two outgoing colors, namely White Frost Tricoat (paint code G1W) and Thunderstorm Gray (paint code GNO). Interestingly, both of the outgoing paint options have already been built out for the remainder of the 2025 model year, as GM Authority covered previously.
White Frost Tricoat has held a spot on the Sierra 1500’s paint options list for several years now, and was first offered even before the launch of the current fifth-gen Sierra 1500 for the 2019 model year. Meanwhile, Thunderstorm Gray is much newer, first joining the options list for the 2024 model year.
Beyond the debut of these two new paint colors, the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 is mostly identical to the preceding 2025 model year, including trim levels, configurations, powertrain options, and the majority of the features. By contrast, the next-generation 2027 GMC Sierra will introduce a wide array of updates.
Perhaps the biggest headline will be the launch of GM’s sixth-generation Small Block V8 gasoline engine, promising improved performance and a 10-percent reduction in emissions. The 2027 Sierra 1500 is set to offer a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain option, while the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax and TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine are expected to carry over largely unchanged from the 2026 model year. Further changes will include the updated T1-2 platform, which will serve as an evolution of the existing GM T1 architecture.
