General Motors has officially unveiled the 2026 GMC Hummer EV, revealing the new King Crab off-roading mode. King Crab mode is designed to enhance the all-electric rig’s maneuverability off the pavement, utilizing the Hummer’s rear-steer system. Initially teased last month, GM has now confirmed that King Crab mode will roll out across the Hummer EV lineup, including models produced between the 2022 and 2025 model years.
Essentially, King Crab mode enables the Hummer EV’s rear wheels to turn “significantly faster” than the front wheels. This results in increased agility, allowing the Hummer EV to more easily navigate tight spaces and even tackle challenging rock-crawling terrain.
The new feature will be standard on all Hummer EV 2X and 3X trim levels, including both Pickup and SUV body configurations. Anyone with a 2022 through 2025 Hummer EV will also gain access to the new feature through an over-the-air (OTA) software update, which GM says will be available later this year.
The 2026 Hummer EV also introduces several other upgrades beyond King Crab mode. For example, the 2026 Hummer now supports bidirectional charging, allowing it to power another electric vehicle or a properly equipped home during a blackout. The 2026 Hummer also offers enhanced Super Cruise with Hands on Lane Change Assist (HOLCA) and Lane Change for Route, which enable the seamless transition between non-Super Cruise mapped and Super Cruise-mapped roads.
As for the specs, the 24-module 2026 Hummer EV 3X Pickup doles out 1,160 horsepower and “13,000 pound-feet of torque.” Ride quality has been improved with optimized damper tuning for a smoother on- and off-road experience.
Inside, the 13.4-inch infotainment center has been upgraded with a customizable split-screen view. The infotainment center includes Google Built-In and OnStar connecticity. On the aesthetics front, the 2026 Hummer EV now offers two new exterior paint options, Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte, as well as two fresh interior themes, Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse.
Production of the 2026 GMC Hummer EV is set to begin later this year at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan. Look for it in dealers before the year’s end. Pricing and detailed range specifications will be announced closer to launch.

Stop fussing with this atrocity and put it out of its misery.
Why? They’re selling thousands a quarter at about $100k a pop.
Are you ever happy?
I don’t mind the feature at all, but the name is questionable. Crabwalk worked because the Hummer drove at an angle like crabs walk, but this is 4 way steering that produces sharper turns, which crabs aren’t know for doing.
Oh well, marketing.
GMC dealer in South Florida has quite a few new, unsold Hummer EV’s on the lot. A few (lightly) used Hummer EV sales via well established auto auction websites reflect frightening first year depreciation for these all electric vehicles. Maybe an ICE version would help? Are EV’s really even practical off-road for extended use?
The ICE Hummer way killed for a reason.
These are very hot now that the cyber duck has failed. Lots have sold very good vehicle.
What’s worse? This volt guzzler or the Celestiq beached whale?
Message to GM – Stop wasting your brain trust on this sort of silly, unnecessary engineering and focus on quality control. Specifically, your V8s and automatic transmissions. The effected vehicles are your sales volume leaders.
You ‘ve positioned the electric Hummer as a halo vehicle- loaded with gimmicky unessential. Why?
Well said, frank!
Yes, because the guy coding this feature was the same guy designing V8s.
Someone send that memo to Mary.
Another man baby who can’t handle a successful woman.
I support . she needs to get a memo for bringing the brand to a confused future.. if any.
