2026 Chevy Traverse To Offer New Key Card

GM launched the third-gen Chevy Traverse for the 2024 model year, with the subsequent 2025 model year introducing several important updates. Now, the 2026 Chevy Traverse is expected to debut a few updates as well, including the new Key Card feature.

Essentially, the Key Card allows users to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle instead of needing the traditional keyfob. To unlock a vehicle using a properly programmed key card, users simply need to tap the card on a rectangular symbol located near the window on the driver’s side door. The vehicle can then be started for a brief period after unlocking the door using the key card. To lock the door using the key card, the vehicle must be shut off and then users can tap the card again on the rectangular symbol. Up to eight cards can be programmed per vehicle.

The 2026 Chevrolet Traverse debuts a few key updates.

The Key Card feature will be offered as optional for 2026 Chevy Traverse LT and Z71 trim levels, as well as equipped as standard on High Country and RS trims. In order to enable Key Card functionality on the LT and Z71, customers must opt for the Driver Confidence Package (RPO code BGP), which bundles together several other high-tech features, including (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

  • Rear Camera Mirror (DRZ)
  • Key Card
  • 120V Power Outlet (KI6)
  • Rear Pedestrian Alert (UKK)
  • HD Surround Vision (UV2)
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (UVX)

All of the above features are equipped as standard on 2026 Chevy Traverse High Country and RS trims. To note, the above equipment list also marks a change from previous model years, as the Rear Camera Mirror, which is now part of the Driver Confidence Package for the LT trim, was previously available exclusively on the Z71 trim.

The 2026 Chevy Traverse is expected to once again cradle the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0, which will be carried over unchanged from the 2025 model year. Output is rated at 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. Like its predecessors, the 2026 model will continue to ride on the GM C1 platform.

Production of the 2026 Chevy Traverse is currently scheduled to begin on July 14th, 2025, at the GM Lansing Delta Township Assembly Plant in Michigan, as GM Authority covered previously. Dealers will be able to submit orders starting June 12th, 2025. However, it’s worth noting that these dates are tentative and may be subject to change.

  1. A video would have been nice but gm isn’t a visual corporation. Not sure this is an improvement. Time will tell.

  2. It does say this is included with an optional equipment package. The key card system sounds identical to the Tesla in functionality. Not sure it’s an improvement over a key fob. Maybe it’s easier to copy?

    1. Having 8 is nice, since getting new FOBs for 8 people would be very cost prohibited.

  4. So if I want the digital rearview mirror, I have to pay for this garbage feature I’d never use that just adds one more vector for bad actors to gain access to my car? No thanks, GM.
