General Motors confirmed that the upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV will be coming to all South American countries, shortly after the electric crossover was officially revealed in the region.
During the recent official announcement of the upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV, GM’s South American subsidiary confirmed that Chevy’s next all-electric model will be available throughout the region, where it will arrive later this year. From a port in Brazil, GM South America stated that the 2026 Captiva EV is also arriving at the main maritime terminals in the southern region of the continent.
“Chevrolet announces another first in the region: the all-new Captiva EV, an electric SUV that complements the brand’s portfolio,” said Vice President of GM South America, Fabio Rua. “The all-new Chevrolet Captiva EV is a strategic product in the brand’s global electric segment and will be launched in South American countries by the end of the year,” he added.
Notably, the company’s top executive stated that the upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV will be available “throughout South America” ​​as part of Chevrolet’s global expansion strategy in the electric vehicle segment – a product of the alliance with the American manufacturer’s SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture in China. As such, the Captiva EV is confirmed for countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
After the brand-new 2026 Chevy Spark EUV was previewed in eight South American countries, the 2026 Chevy Captiva EV is the brand’s second all-electric vehicle confirmed for all markets in the region and marks a milestone in the expansion of SGMW-manufactured products in China. Although GM has not announced it, the Captiva EV will be offered alongside the seven-seat internal combustion model already sold in some of these countries as the Captiva XL.

Unlike the US, which has imposed a barrier to the entry of the Chinese, these countries have taken measures to encourage the production of Chinese models in the region, in order to compete with already established brands. BYD and GWM have acquired the former Ford and Mercedes factories to manufacture their vehicles, in addition to many others that have already revealed plans for future production. The same is happening in Argentina and Mexico. The big question is whether Western brands will be able to compete with them on their own or will they have to form alliances if they want to have any chance of survival.
