2025 GMC Sierra EV Gets Standard Vehicle-To-Home Capability

The 2025 GMC Sierra EV launches the all-electric pickup’s second model year, following up on the initial 2024 model year with a few important updates and changes. Among these is the launch of the non-Edition 1 Denali trim level, as well as new styling options. Additional trim levels will arrive for the 2026 year. What’s more, the 2025 GMC Sierra EV now offers vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging capabilities as standard.

The GMC Sierra EV drives down a road.

For those readers who may be unaware, V2H technology enables the 2025 GMC Sierra EV to serve as a backup power source, providing electricity to a properly equipped home without the need for a traditional generator. This is made possible through the GM Energy PowerShift Charger and GM Energy V2H Enablement Kit. To activate this feature, users need a GM EV with bidirectional charging capabilities, a properly equipped home, and a grid connection. Eligible 2024 GMC Sierra EV models may also receive a V2H upgrade via an update provided at the dealership or over-the-air.

It is important to note that while V2H offers significant convenience, especially when the local grid goes down, it is not recommended for powering critical devices such as medical equipment. Factors such as weather conditions, battery health, vehicle usage, and certain external factors may impact the overall duration and stability of the power supply.

Beyond V2H, the 2025 GMC Sierra EV can now be equipped with the following (relevant RPO codes and pricing is listed in parentheses):

  • GM Energy PowerShift Charger (5AV, $1,699)
  • GM PowerUp 2 Charger (5CH, $699)
  • NACS DC Adapter (RYZ, $225)

Owners may choose between the PowerShift Charger and the PowerUp 2 Charger, but cannot select both.

As for the powertrain, the 2025 GMC Sierra EV is motivated by a GM battery pack and GM drive motors, delivering 645 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in the Extended Range configuration, while the Max Range variant produces 760 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque. Built on the GM BT1 platform, the 2025 GMC Sierra EV is assembled at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
