2025 Chevy Trailblazer Drive Modes Explained

The General’s compact Bow Tie crossover model, the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer, arrives with several key differences from the 2024 Trailblazer – including flex-fuel E85 capability for one of its two engines and other changes.

Here, GM Authority is looking at the drive modes included on the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer, which enable tailoring the vehicle’s performance to certain common conditions.

Driver Mode Control or DMC is equipped as standard on the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer and is accessed via the two righthand buttons of the five found on the center console just ahead of the shift lever. While three modes exist, only two are available at any given time depending on the drivetrain and drive.

The 2025 Trailblazer defaults to Normal mode and will return to this mode from any other Drive Mode selected when it is switched off and restarted, except AWD mode. The instrument cluster displays a mode indicator showing which mode is currently active for rapid identification at a glance.

AWD Mode

Normal mode is front-wheel drive (FWD) regardless of the specific drivetrain equipped in the Trailblazer unit. AWD mode is only available if the crossover has all-wheel drive equipped. The mode provides extra traction for loose or slippery surfaces such as snow and ice, sand, mud, and so on.

Sport Mode

As its name suggests, Sport Mode provides sporty driving by changing steering sensitivity and response as well as transmission shifts. This mode should only be used in good driving conditions with dry pavement.

Snow / Ice Mode

The Snow / Ice Mode is only available on 2025 Chevy Trailblazer units configured with FWD rather than AWD. It uses the same button as AWD Mode, and changes acceleration characteristics on snowy or icy roads to boost traction. It will cause acceleration to be weaker on dry road surfaces. It also shouldn’t be used if the vehicle gets bogged down.

As a reminder, the 2025 Trailblazer is motivated by one of two powerplants. One of this is the newly E85-capable turbocharged 1.2L I3 LBP flex-fuel engine rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The other is the turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine developing 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.

Under the sheet metal, the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer is underpinned by the GM VSS-F platform. Production is carried out exclusively at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea.
