2025 Chevy Silverado EV Now Features Vehicle-To-Home Capability

The 2025 Chevy Silverado EV now includes Vehicle-To-Home (V2H) capability across all trim levels as standard, providing customers with a significant upgrade when it comes to energy management.

For those that may be unaware, V2H capability allows owners to utilize energy stored in the Chevy Silverado EV’s battery to power their house, thus offering a versatile backup during outages without firing up a generator. In addition, this functionality can reduce energy costs by discharging energy during peak utility hours and charging during off-peak periods, enabling homeowners optimize their electricity usage, while also supporting the integration of household solar panel arrays.

In order to take advantage of V2H functionality, owners must first install a few important pieces of equipment. GM specifies that customers should use the GM Energy PowerShift Charger and V2H Enablement Kit, as well as ensure a properly configured home electrical system and the appropriate utility connection. Although some 2024 Chevy Silverado EV units may also support V2H, access to the feature could require a software update, either over-the-air or through a dealership.

GM also notes that power availability can be influenced by battery state-of-charge, vehicle use, and external conditions such as weather. As such, the automaker cautions against powering critical medical equipment with V2H due to the risk of intermittent service.

In addition to bidirectional charging capabilities, the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV also supports additional external charging through the optional NACS DC adapter (RPO code RYZ). Buyers can choose between two specific charging units, namely the GM Energy PowerShift Charger (RPO code 5AV) or the GM PowerUp 2 Charger (RPO code 5CH). To note, the GM Energy PowerShift Charger and GM PowerUp 2 Charger are not interchangeable.

GM announced in 2023 that it would expand the bidirectional charging feature to all Ultium-based vehicles by 2026.

As a reminder, the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV rides on the GM BT1 platform and is assembled at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

  1. I dream of a future where this comes standard with every EV and every house is already fitted for it.

  2. Just provide a simple 240v 30A output from the truck that I could plug into a generator panel.
