The 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 has received a subtle yet notable update for the 2025 interim model year (otherwise known as the 2025.5 model year), offering an enhancement for the truck’s exhaust system.
The update includes a new Sport calibration for the active exhaust system, identified by RPO code RWQ. Essentially, the revised calibration delivers a more aggressive sound profile while driving.
This new RWQ exhaust calibration is available exclusively for the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine. To equip the RWQ system, customers must first opt for the Active Dual Exhaust system (RPO code NPP), which carries an additional cost of $395. The RWQ calibration itself is an extra $395 on top of the L87 engine and NPP dual exhaust setup. The sport exhaust is only offered on RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trim levels, while the off-road-focused ZR2 trim does not offer the new option.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with a range of engine options designed to meet various performance and utility needs. The base engine is the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, producing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, followed by the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The range-topping 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine delivers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, while 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax provides 305 horsepower and an impressive 495 pound-feet of torque.
Chevy Silverado 1500 production takes place at three GM assembly plants across North America. These include the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana, the GM Silao Assembly plant in Guanajuato, Mexico, and the GM Oshawa Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada. GM CEO Mary Barra recently indicated that General Motors would increase annual pickup production at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant by 50,000 units in response to new tariffs levied by the Trump administration targeting vehicles assembled outside the U.S.
All units of the current-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 ride on the GM T1 platform.

The GTO portended the first down fall of GM. They figured out a way to hustle several thousand dollars more out of a mediocre midsized Lemans with a few more geegaws and doodads. Toyota and Honda meanwhile just made solid cars.
This fake exhaust is the same. It’s junk. In other columns here on this forum, one can read about failing engines and fuel pumps on GM trucks and SUVs. Why not just focus on making a decent vehicle rather than hustling people over geegaws and doodads once again?
Don’t like it?? Don’t buy it! It’s that simple…
I see the quest for trucks no one can afford continues unabated.
This exhaust calibration is also an accessory you can get for the 2025 Silverado/Sierra. It is essentially the same calibration that is on the ZR2/AT4X, hence why it isn’t an option on those trims. I had the calibration done on my 25 Sierra SLT and while it does offer a better burble at idle and more aggressive/loud sound at full throttle, not sure it was worth the $400. I did it because I wanted a little bit more volume in Sport mode but wanted to retain the quietness that the active exhaust offers in Normal mode without buying an aftermarket exhaust system. Really depends on what you want to spend your money on.
Chevy should spend their time refining inline engines for their trucks. I like the 2.7 turbo. I think an inline 6 turbo designed the same would be great for hd trucks. No cylinder deactivation. Low end torque. More room in the engine bay to work on it. Bring the price down a bit with less cylinders and less moving parts. We want good solid affordable trucks. I wish companies would respect that and quit making us buy overcomplicated vehicles at crazy high prices. I bought a 2025 trail boss turbomax. I love the 4cyl. It pulls my 6,000 lb travel trailer very easily.
I agree with Bernie above. This is junk. Why not just stick your head out the window and make ZOOM ZOOM or roaring sounds? Thats free. Or I can see some doofus kid running around on Sunday morning through town with the exhaust turned up. Like those inconsiderate Harley riders.
if it’s too loud, your too old. Maybe a nice quiet EV is more your style.
Mary’s in charge. Maybe you will be so award by this you will overlook the problems that exist? Remember. The girls running GM aren’t like those mean men so that’s a huge improvement
Awed. Not award.
I wait until the exhaust system falls off my car before I do anything about it. Then I have my neighbors muffler shop toss on a used flow master for a fraction of what GM wants.
Unless it is exposed to a very corrosive environment, most exhaust systems last the life of the vehicle these days. If you replace the factory mufflers or muffler with a high quality drone-free, muffler or mufflers, your fuel economy will even improve.
i think g.m. shoud re inter duce a new in line 6 they had plandto do in the the ottwa plant 2 years agow they allways had a good in line 6gas
