2025 Buick Encore GX: Here’s What Changed Compared To 2024

Compared to the 2024 model year, the 2025 Buick Encore GX receives several relatively minor though still noteworthy changes consistent with a model year changeover.

Model Cadence

The 2025 Buick Encore GX represents the sixth model year of the subcompact crossover’s first generation, which was launched as the 2020 Encore GX, followed by a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 Encore GX.

2025 Buick Encore GX Model Line

The model line doesn’t see any changes, continuing to be offered across the following three trim levels, each available in either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive:

  • Preferred
  • Sport Touring
  • Avenir

Exterior

On the outside, the 2025 Buick Encore GX adds Aquamarine Blue Metallic (GKN) as an exterior color, while deleting Sunrise Red Metallic (GMF). There is also a change in the availability of two other exterior colors.

First, Copper Ice Metallic (G98) becomes unavailable on the Sport Touring trim, while becoming available on the Avenir trim. For the 2024 model year, this paint was available on Preferred and Sport Touring trims, but not on Avenir. Second, White Frost Tricoat (GP5) becomes unavailable on the Preferred and Sport Touring trims, while remaining available on the Avenir. For the 2024 model year, White Frost Tricoat was available on all three trims.

Sunrise Red Metallic (discontinued)

Rounding out the changes to the exterior are two LPO-level (dealer-installed) options: Bright Chrome lug nuts (LPO S47) and wheel locks (LPO SFE), which includes four locks and one key. Both items are available across all trims and neither were available for the prior model year.

Interior

Inside, the 2025 Buick Encore GX has two changes. First is the addition of a new rear cargo net option (AP9), which is in addition to the Vertical Cargo Net (W2D) and Horizontal Cargo Net (WH6) that were available previously.

Second, a new RPO code is used for the Ebony interior on the Sport Touring trim. This colorway was labeled H74 for the 2024 model year, and H73 on the 2025 model year.

The rest of the interior carries over, including the eight-inch diagonal fully-digital Driver Information Center and the 11-inch diagonal center infotainment display, both integrated into a single panel.

 Mechanical

Mechanically, the 2025 Buick Encore GX carries over its two small-displacement turbocharged gasoline engines, with one important exception: the turbo 1.2L engine now features E85 compatibility. Assigned RPO code FHS, the E85 compatibility also changes the RPO code of the turbo 1.2L engine from LIH for the 2024 model year to LBP for 2025. Output remains the same at 137 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. Since the 1.2L engine is available only on the Preferred trim with FWD, E85 compatibility is limited to that model and driveline.

Engine Fuel Aspiration Transmission Drivetrain Horsepower @ RPM Torque @ RPM Axle Ratio
1.2L I3 LBP Gasoline Turbocharged CVT FWD 137 @ 5000 162 @ 2500 5.44
1.3L I3 L3T Gasoline Turbocharged CVT, 9-Speed Auto FWD, AWD 155 @ 5600 174 @ 1600 5.44, 3.17

Lastly, the remote vehicle starter system (BTV) becomes standard on the Preferred and Sport Touring trims. For the 2024 model year, remote vehicle start was optional on Preferred and Sport Touring trims, only as part of the optional Comfort Package, while being standard on Avenir. The change means that all 2025 Encore GX units will have remote start as standard.

The updates and changes described here are specific to the U.S. market and may be different for other markets.

Looking Ahead

Production of the 2025 Encore GX has already come to an end at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea, but no 2026 models have landed on dealer lots just yet. Looking beyond 2025, we expect the current Encore GX to remain in production through at least the 2027 model year, with another dose of small changes coming for the 2026 and 2027 model years. What GM plans on doing with the Encore GX after that is unclear at this point, but the most logical path would involve reskinning it on the existing VSS-F architecture, which is still modern and capable of supporting the vehicle for a while longer. 1. Buick Encore is by far the most uncomfortable, poorly designed auto I ever drove. After 3 PT Cruisers that I loved, I go nowhere that I don’t have to in
The Crudmobile. Rough drive, awful radio, windows designed by a moron…..could go on and on . Hate the 2021 Encore. Even a Buick salesman has told me…”Never buy a Buick!”

  2. Thank you I have not had a gut laugh in a long time. I owned a 2021. Preferred ENCORE.
You were obviously in dream land since you were told by a salesman Why would he cut his own
throat. Windows designed by a moron?. No one designs a window. All windows have been the same since cars had them in stalled. Whose da MORON.?? If you love 3 PT. CRIUSERS so
much WHY are you not still buying and driving them ????? Scare Crow.?? Your not in Kansas anymore.

  3. I own a 2010 Buick Lacrosse with less than 60,000 miles on it. My Grandchildren told me that my Rear view camera was broken! Ha, never had one. I have had zero complaints about my car. Newer cars catch my fancy but I always wonder why exterior paint colors never change except for a bright metallic electric blue (Ugg). Where are the pretty rosewood or muted blue-greens?
